Jubail, December 22: A fire broke out in a factory in eastern Saudi Arabia on Saturday killing six workers, a spokesman for the Jubail industrial zone said.
The fire erupted at around 10:30 a.m. in one of 'BeeA'h' Development Companies in the city of Jubail. Many other workers sustained injuries during the tragedy.
It was not yet immediately weather there were any Indians among the deceased or injured.
Source said that the fire occurred when maintenance workers used welding tools on a tank containing diesel and benzene, a spark from the welding works caused the explosion and an instant fire.
Civil defence teams eventually put out the blaze which began during routine maintenance work at an industrial waste processing plant, Abdul Rahman Abdel Kader said.
Jubail, on Saudi Arabia's Gulf coast is a major port and petrochemical industry hub.
