15-day festival to foster unity, communal harmony'

Kasargod, December 24: Kasargod MP P Karunakaran said that the second annual 'Kasaragod Mahotsavam' is expected to foster unity of the multi-ethnic groups in the district and preserve its rich and varied culture.

 

Mr. Karunakaran was speaking after formally opening the 15-day Mahotsavam being hosted jointly by the district administration, the local bodies, and people's representatives on the Municipal Stadium grounds here on Saturday night.

 

Organising committee chairman N.A. Nellikunnu, MLA, presided over the inaugural function.

 

The event is aimed at showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region and at promoting and fostering communal harmony in the district which is sometimes rocked by communal violence engineered by unscrupulous elements.

 

Actor Sajitha Betty was the guest of honour at the programme.

 

Other MLAs from the district P.B. Abdul Razzak, K. Kunhiraman (Uduma), E. Chandrashekharan, K. Kunhiraman (Thrikaripur); district panchayat president P.P. Shyamala Devi; the former Minister Cherkalam Abdulla; municipal chairman T.E. Abdulla; District Collector P.S. Mohammed Sagir; and Superintendent of Police S. Surendran were present, among others.

 

The Kasaragod Mahotsavam will conclude on January 5.

Mangaluru, Jun 24: An elderly woman who was tested positive for coronavirus yesterday, breathed her last at the designated covid hospital in the city today. 

The deceased 57-year-old woman from Ullal. Her final rites were held as per the guidelines issued by the district administration. 

According to sources, she was admitted to a private hospital in Thokkottu due to diarrhoea. She was treated in that hospital for eight days. 

Meanwhile, her throat swabs were sent for covid test. She received positive report yesterday. Hence she was shifted to covid hospital where she breathed her last without responding to treatment.

Newsroom, Jun 14: Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in his house in Mumbai’s Bandra today, was heartbroken after the death of his former manager Disha Salian.

34-year-old actor had posted a heartfelt note after her death: “It’s such devastating news. My deepest condolences to Disha’s family and friends. May your soul rest in peace.” 

The police are considering 28-year-old Disha’s death as an accidental one and the investigation is on to find if it was a suicide. She died after falling off the 14th floor of a building in Malad, Mumbai on June 8.

It is not yet known if there is any connection between the two deaths. Sushant’s house help reportedly found him hanging inside his room on Sunday and cops are investigating the case. He was recently seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore and more recently on Netflix opposite Jacqueline Fernandez in Drive.

Who is Disha Salian?

Disha Salian hails from Karnataka’s coastal district of Udupi. She was born in 1992 into a business family background. She reportedly migrated to Mumbai with her family at an early age. 

After completing her education, she worked in the Times of India Group for more than three years. She went on to become the celebrity manager at Media Vantage.

Apart from Sushant, she had great links with many popular celebrities like Bharti Singh, Alisha Panwar, and others.

Kochi, Apr 18: The Centre on Friday informed the Kerala High Court that there was no immediate plan to bring back the Indian citizens stranded in the Gulf countries due to the novel coronavirus outbreak and that the expatriates had been granted visa extension.

The counsel for the central government made the submission before a division bench comprising justices Rajavijayaraghavan and T R Ravi during the hearing of a plea seeking a direction to bring back Indians stranded in the UAE.

Permission of the Gulf countries was required to send medical teams there to carry out medical examination of the stranded Indians, the counsel said when the court sought to know the Centre's view on Kerala government sending medical teams to the Gulf countries to deal with the issue of COVID-19 disease among Malayalees there.

The court posted the plea for April 21 for consideration after the Central government informed that a similar petition is under consideration of the Supreme Court.

In its plea, Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) in Dubai, the organisation for non-resident Indians from Kerala, sought directions to the Ministries of External Affairs and Civil Aviation to provide exemptions in the international air travel ban to bring back Indians stranded in the UAE.

The petitioners noted that those who return could be kept in quarantine as per the protocol of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
