Kasargod: Four killed in road accident

Kasargod, December 27: Four persons were killed and four others seriously injured when a private bus collided with an autorickshaw at Poochakkad near Kanhangad in Kasaragod district on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Ratheesh (28), the auto driver, and three passengers in the rickshaw -- Anjitha (14), Sachin (5) and Abhishek (4), all residents of Thaikadavu near Neeleswaram. Anjitha was a class 9 student of the Regional Fisheries Technical School for Girls, Kanhangad.

Police said the bus came from the wrong side and hit the rickshaw while trying to overtake another bus. The eight people in the rickshaw, including the driver, were relatives and were going for a wedding ceremony.

Mangaluru, Jul 12: The Expert Committee set up by the District authorities to inquire into death due to Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada district declared that the death was due to patients late reporting to the hospitals and severe co-morbidities.

''Many were scared to visit the hospitals for treatment. Any patient suffering from fever, cold should stop self-medication and seek the advice of doctors. From what we have observed, the mortality was among patients who reported late to hospitals. Many had ignored symptoms assuming it to be a common cold,'' Expert Committee members Dr Hansraj Alva and Dr Muralidhar Yadiyal told mediapersons on Saturday night.

Wenlock Hospital Superintendent Dr Sadashiv said of the 38 deaths reported in the District, the expert committee had analysed 35 deaths. 9 persons who died are below 50 years old, 10 are in the age group of 50 to 60 years, 11 in the age group of 60 to 70 and five in the age group of above 70 years.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: Muzrai Department of Karnataka on Tuesday issued a circular requesting all temples in the state to perform special puja on Wednesday following the 'bhoomi pujan' for Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The circular was issued on the directions of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Commissioner's Office, Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department Karnataka said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on August 5.

The construction of Ram temple will begin in Ayodhya after the foundation ceremony in which various dignitaries from political and religious fields are scheduled to participate.

The apex court, on November 9 last year, had directed the Central government to hand over the site at Ayodhya for the construction of a Ram temple.

The formation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust was announced on February 5 for the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. The Trust has been mandated by the Central government to oversee the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Bengaluru, May 6: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday urged migrant workers to stay back as construction activities have resumed and also announced a Rs 1,610 crores COVID-19 financial package for the state.

The Chief Minister also said that close to one lakh persons, including migrant workers and students, among others, have so far been sent back to their home towns from Karnataka.

"We have sent around one lakh people in 3,500 buses and trains, back to their home towns. I have also appealed to migrant workers to stay as the construction work has resumed now," the Chief Minister said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"A package of Rs 1,610 crores will be released as COVID-19 financial relief. One time compensation of Rs 5,000 will be given to 2,30,000 barbers and 7,75,000 drivers," he added.

During the course of the press conference, the Chief Minister also announced compensation for floriculturists in the state.
