BJP nurturing superstition'
December 28, 2012
Mangalore, December 28: Condemning the police lathi charge on the demonstration held by party workers against casteist rituals like 'made-snana' and 'pankthi-bheda' in Udupi on Thursday, members of the city unit of CPI (M) protested in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Friday.
Addressing the protestors, CPI (M) State Secretary B Madhava said that the attempts of the BJP led state government to quell pro-people demonstrations by acts like lathi charge, arrests and false cases would be faced boldly.
Alleging that the influential Pejawar Mutt seer was urging the state government to continue the casteist practices like made-snana and pankthi bheda, he said that the state BJP government was violating its constitutional duty by encouraging superstitions and false beliefs.
“Action must be taken against Udupi Tahsildar for giving order for lathi charge on the CPI (M) party workers during their peaceful demonstration,” he urged.
CPI (M) state Secretariat Board member K R Shriyan, state committee member Vasanth Achari and CPI (M) leader Sunil Kumar Bajal also spoke during the protest.
CPI (M) member Suresh Bajal delivered vote of thanks.
