Mangalore, Feb 16: A Bhatkal based youth made a futile attempt to smuggle 6 kg of gold ornaments at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized the gold worth over Rs 1.5 crore from Abdul Haq when he arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai.
Based on a tip-off, the sleuths searched the accused thoroughly. Sources said he was hiding the gold ornaments inside chocolate boxes.
He was immediately arrested. Investigations are on.
Bengaluru, Aug 1: The Karnataka government on Friday brought in Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Kamal Pant as the Bengaluru police Commissioner in a reshuffle of police personnel.
Pant comes in as the city police Commissioner in place of Bhaskar Rao.
According to a government order, Rao will handle internal security as ADGP, a post which was lying vacant due to the promotion of P S Sandhu.
Along with the two officials, ADGP B Dayananda who was in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department and Economic Offences, has been made the new intelligence chief.
Udupi, Feb 27: Silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh were stolen from the Badakere Laxmi Janardhana temple under Byndoor police station limits in Udupi district.
The theft which reportedly took place on Wednesday late night, came to light today morning.
Notably, this is the fourth incident reported during the last two months.
Bengaluru, Mar 10: Congress leader NA Haris on Tuesday said that keeping Jammu and Kashmir leaders under house arrest is not democratic.
Speaking to media persons he said, "It is not done. Keeping the leaders under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir is not democratic."
Haris said that nobody is talking about it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking about it and nothing is happing.
"About Kashmir, it is better to say less as nobody is talking about it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking about it and nothing is happening. It does not look good," he told media.
"I think leaders should be brought to the table and discussion on issues should take place. Do whatever has to be done for the country," he added.
The Jammu and Kashmir Administration had on February 5 invoked the Public Safety Act (PSA) against former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah. The duo was detained after the Central government abrogated Article 370 last year.
