Mangalore, Feb 16: A Bhatkal based youth made a futile attempt to smuggle 6 kg of gold ornaments at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized the gold worth over Rs 1.5 crore from Abdul Haq when he arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai.
Based on a tip-off, the sleuths searched the accused thoroughly. Sources said he was hiding the gold ornaments inside chocolate boxes.
He was immediately arrested. Investigations are on.
Mangaluru, Aug 1: Former member of Karnataka Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The Congress leader took to social media to break the news. “I and my wife Dr Kavitha have been tested positive covid-19 positive. There are no symptoms. We had voluntarily given our throat swabs for testing,” he said in a Facebook post.
He also requested his friends and well-wishers not to visit him until he recovers.
Mr D’Souza had participated in a party meeting at Congress Bhavan when KPCC chief DK Shivakumar visited city yesterday. He was seen meeting several Congress leaders including U T Khader.
Kasaragod, Jan 3: A serving officer of the Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) was found dead inside his car in Bekal town near here early on Friday.
Police sources said the officer, Rijo Francis (35) has been under treatment after he had an heart attack last year.
Police suspect that the death could be due to heart failure.
Mysuru, Feb 26: Twenty-nine students of the Government Primary School fell sick after consuming milk supplied at the school on Wednesday morning at Kiranguru village, in Hanagodu hobli, in the hunsur taluk in the district.
Police said the students were immediately rushed to the primary health centre in Hanagodu and provided first aid.
Tahsildar and Police personnel visited the health centre and inquired about the health of the students. "All the students are responding to the treatment," sources said.
