Mangalore, Feb 16: A Bhatkal based youth made a futile attempt to smuggle 6 kg of gold ornaments at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized the gold worth over Rs 1.5 crore from Abdul Haq when he arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai.
Based on a tip-off, the sleuths searched the accused thoroughly. Sources said he was hiding the gold ornaments inside chocolate boxes.
He was immediately arrested. Investigations are on.
Kalaburagi, Mar 3: Former Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Monday in a letter requested Karnataka Assembly Speaker Sri Vishveshvaraya Hegade Kageri that the restricted media coverage in Assembly Budget session was not the right thing and it will be danger of for healthy democracy.

Tumuku, Jul 6: Senior Congress leader and Kunigal MLA Dr H D Ranganathm tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.
The 48-year-old Congress legislature, a doctor by himself, was admitted to Manipal hospital and recovering, he said in a tweet.
Dr Ranganath said he took all precautions, yet could not save himself from the virus and advice people to not to take the contagion lightly.
Mangaluru, July 28: In an unexpected development, the government of Karnataka has transferred Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.
The development comes days after the IAS officer warned of legal action against those attacking cattle traders in the region.
Another IAS officer Dr Rajendra K V who was the CEO of Belagavi Zilla Panchayat, has been transferred and posted as the new Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.
Dr Rajendra is a medical doctor graduated from Bapuji Medical College, Davangere. He had secured the 32nd rank in the civil services examination in 2013.
Sindhu B Rupesh had taken over as DK DC in September 2019. Now, she is posted as the director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.
