Mangalore, Feb 16: A Bhatkal based youth made a futile attempt to smuggle 6 kg of gold ornaments at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized the gold worth over Rs 1.5 crore from Abdul Haq when he arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai.
Based on a tip-off, the sleuths searched the accused thoroughly. Sources said he was hiding the gold ornaments inside chocolate boxes.
He was immediately arrested. Investigations are on.
Puttur, Jan 4: As many as 27 passengers travelling in a private bus escaped with minor injuries after it toppled and fell into a roadside trench at Amai near Perne on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway last night, police said on Saturday.
Police said that the driver of the Bengaluru-bond bus lost control over the vehicle while traversing through the narrow bridge at Amai.
The bus was damaged in the mishap.

Udupi, Jan 26: The late seer of Pejawar Mutt Vishwesha Tirtha Swami has been posthumously honoured with Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to spiritualism.
The seer, who passed away in December last, was known as a Hindu reformist spiritual leader.
He was also among the religious heads to be in the forefront of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and was a vocal proponent for the construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya.
Bengaluru, May 30: A city corporator in Bengaluru was sent into quarantine on Saturday after he tested positive for the coronavirus infection, officials said.
"Yes, I have tested positive," Padarayanapura municipal ward corporator Imran Pasha told some news channels.
The JDS corporator said he would quarantine himself as per the regulations.
The entire area where Pasha lives was cordoned off.
Health workers reached there in an ambulance and gave him a personal protection gear to wear and he was taken to a designated hospital.
Reacting to the development, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka claimed Pasha hardly paid heed to the COVID-19 regulations.
"He rushes to all those places wherever there are positive cases...," Ashoka told reporters.
Padarayanapura was declared as a containment zone earlier with a few cases coming to the fore.
It was in this area where some policemen and health workers were attacked when they went to quarantine a few primary and secondary contacts of a COVID-19 patient about a month ago.
Following the incident, about 125 people were arrested, and later quarantined after a few of them tested positive.
