Mangalore, Jul 16: “We need to shed our laziness, inhibitions and develop attitude of questioning to bring about a revolution for Human rights and equality,” said Prof Narendra Nayak, Convener of Balakedarara Shikshana Prathishtana.

Addressing the inaugural programme of the city unit of Rashtriya Manava Hakku Balakedarara Kendra on Monday in the city, Prof Nayak said that consumer rights are similar to human rights in many ways. He said that due to lethargy and laziness of common man human rights violation has been happening persistently.

“Many a times, those who want to raise their voice against the same keep quite due to other personal commitments. We can certainly not protect our rights if we do not question,” he said.

Centre was inaugurated by Kendra's national President Shankar Shetty who said that Rashtriya Manava Hakku Balakedarara Kendra was formed in 1997 and has been connected to Human Rights Commission.

“Due to the Human Rights Commission police atrocities have been curbed to a very large extent,” he said.

Centre Mangalore Unit President U Padmanabha Shetty Niddodi welcomed the gathering.

Deeds Director Merlyn Martis, Convener of the Centre Dayananda Shetty, Vice-President Jayalakshmi S Hegde, Secretary Harish Kumar Shetty, Treasurer K M Devikiran Shetty among others were present.

Bengaluru, Jun 29: A 99-year-old woman has successfully recovered from coronavirus in Bengaluru, leaving the medical fraternity and her family elated.

The woman had contracted the pathogen after coming in contact with her grandson and was hospitalised on her 99th birthday on June 18.

The woman was taken to the government Victoria Hospital along with her 70-year-old son, daughter-in-law and grandson.

"While we three developed symptoms like cold, cough and fever, my mother remained asymptomatic," the woman's son said.

The family members are still wondering how they got infected by the virus as all except the woman's grandson, were confined to their home most of the time.

Her 29-year-old grandson was the only one who went out to buy groceries.

Initially, the family approached a private hospital nearby for treatment, but they refused to accept COVID-19 patients.

Left with no option, the family got admitted to the Victoria hospital.

"We had reservations about Victoria hospital, but it turned out be a good one.

We did not spend a penny since the day we were admitted and my mother and son fully recovered," the woman's son said.

According to Dr Asima Banu, nodal officer of the Trauma Care Centre at the Victoria hospital, the woman was reluctant to get treatment at the hospital.

"With moral support from doctors and nurses at the Trauma Care Centre, she recovered very fast. She is always positive in life," the doctor said.

Udupi, Apr 25: Senior RSS leader H Somashekhar Bhatt received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday enquiring about his health.

Bhatt got emotional hearing the Prime Minister's voice at the other end, family sources said.

The Prime Minister called at 8.30 AM and began the conversation with 'Somashekharji' and spoke for about six minutes.

The 85-year-old veteran recalled how the Jana Sangh came to power in Udupi municipality under the leadership of V S Acharya in 1968 and about his association with the Sangh Parivar through the decades and his imprisonment during the Emergency.

Bhatt, former Udupi municipality president, later said it was a rare honour for him.

"I am very glad that PM Modi called and spoke to me. I shared the experience of meeting him at the Jaipur session.

Asked to take care of health and expressed concern," he said.

The Prime Minister has been calling senior functionaries of the party who worked for the Sangh Parivar in the time of adversities to build up the BJP in its present form and seeking advice from them.

He had also called in recent days former MLA Ram Bhat who was elected from Puttur in Dakshina Kannada and D H Shankar Murthy, who was former chairman of the state legislative council, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel tweeted.
