First Govinda Pai award conferred on epigraphist Srinivas Ritti

Mangalore, Sep 6: The first Rashtrakavi Govind Pai Award was conferred on well-known epigraphist and scholar Srinivas H Ritti in a function held at Nutana Ravindra Mantap of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi on Friday.

The award was instituted by Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Samshodhana Kendra, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi, Academy of General Education, Manipal. These three organizations in their quest to perpetuate the memory of Govind Pai came up with the idea of instituting an award in the name of eminent poet which will be presented to persons who have excelled in the area of literature or research in the field of epigraphy in future.

Mr Ritti received the Smt T Vimala V Pai prize of Rs 1 lakh given as part of the award.

A jury that included writer U R Anantha Murthy zeroed in on Srinivas Ritti for his contributions to field of epigraphy for the maiden award.

The award function was preceded by a seminar on epigraphy with the theme 'Role of inscriptions in the studies of coastal Karnataka'. There was recital of Govind Pai's lyrics post the lunch break.

Ananthakrishna, chairman, Karnataka Bank, unveiled the portrait of Vimala Pai.

Taltaje Vasanth Kumar, scholar, delivered a talk on Govind Pai.

Puttur, Jan 4: As many as 27 passengers travelling in a private bus escaped with minor injuries after it toppled and fell into a roadside trench at Amai near Perne on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway last night, police said on Saturday.

Police said that the driver of the Bengaluru-bond bus lost control over the vehicle while traversing through the narrow bridge at Amai.

The bus was damaged in the mishap.

this is one of the important case that now seen to be increasing these days.  and one of the most problem that is faced and had has to be found a solution is overspeeding by bus driving which have resulted in enomours numbers of accidents with negligence of passengers lifes inside the bus.  passengers safety and lifes are not given value anymore. and another important factor is overspeeding in humps  which have resulted in backbone injuries in high number of passengers

Udupi, Aug 6: Three people including police personnel entered a well and rescued an elderly woman who had accidentally fallen into Udupi on Thursday.

A police sub-inspector and two others got down into a well and rescued the elderly woman, who accidentally fell into well at near her home at Kukkikatte.

The locals immediately alerted to police and fire and rescue personal.

Udupi town police sub-inspector Sadashiva Govroji, fire and rescue staff Vinayaka and a local Auto-driver Rajesh Nayak got into the well and brought the woman out safely.

Mangaluru, Feb 19: The Plenary Assembly of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) of the Latin Church elected Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, Karnataka, as the new Chairman of the CCBI Commission for Liturgy.

The Conference also elected 26 Bishops of the CCBI to participate in the three-week Golden Jubilee Conference of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) to be held in November 2020 at Bangkok in Thailand. The one day meeting of the CCBI discussed various matters affecting the Latin Catholic Church in India, which consists of 132 dioceses and 190 Bishops.

The CCBI animates the Church in India through its 16 Commissions and 4 Departments. Its main Secretariat is in Bangalore with extensions in Goa, Delhi and Pachmarhi (MP).

The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) which is the Canonical National Episcopal Conference is the largest in Asia and the fourth largest in the world.
