Tumkur, Sep 23: : Five members of a family, including two children, were killed on Sunday when their car careened off National Highway 48, near Gavimatha, Kunigal in Tumkur district, and fell off a bridge.

The dead are Manjunath, 36, his wife Anitha, 28, Pushpalatha, 24, Preetham, 4, and an eight-month-old infant. All are from Bagalagunte in Bangalore.

The family, travelling in a Maruti Swift car, were returning after attending a relative's marriage in Chennarayapatna on Saturday. The car was speeding when its tyre burst and the driver lost control over the vehicle when it was moving on the bridge. The car hit the parapet wall of the bridge and fell into the 12-foot-deep ditch.

Pushpalatha, Preetham and the infant died on the spot. Manjunath and Anitha succumbed to injuries later in a nearby hospital.

Mangaluru, Mar 14: About 80 centres to check people for fever, cold, cough and other symptoms related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been set up in the city, health officials said here on Saturday.

According to sources in district health department, apart from the testing centres at Wenlock District Hospital and Lady Goshen hospital, six centres in community health centres, 66 in primary health centres (PHC) and four in the taluk hospitals have been opened for people to get themselves checked if they show any COVID-19-related symptoms.

Two other testing centres are already working at the city’s airport and seaport.

Mangalore, Jan 12: Thieves reportedly stole around 70,000 cash from a MESCOM ATP machine located at Chembugudde in Thokkottu, Police said here on Sunday.

Police said that the theft took place in the MESCOM sub-division office at Chembugudde. It was said that the thieves broke open the room where the MESCOM customers bill payment machine was located and stole 70,000 rupees cash from the ATP machine.

This machine had nine lakh rupees cash. The amount was reported to have been transferred at around 1500 hrs on Saturday.

Bengaluru, Ju 2 As many as 19 deaths and 1,502 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka till 5 pm on Thursday, as per information provided by the State Health Department.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 18,016, including 9,406 active cases.

While 8,334 patients have been discharged after treatment, 272 people have succumbed to the virus.

India's COVID-19 tally breached the 6 lakh cases mark with 19,148 new coronavirus cases being reported in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

The total cases now stand at 6,04,641 of which there are 2,26,947 active cases while 3,59,860 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated. 434 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours taking the number of COVID-19 deaths in the country to 17,834.
