Over 500 students receive scholarships at Infosys Mangalore Development Centre

Mangalore, Sep 30: Employees at the Infosys Mangalore Development Centre organized Pratibha Poshak, a student scholarship distribution programme on Sunday.

The programme was organised to grant 504 students pursuing professional courses, from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts with scholarship of Rs. 19,92,843 to support their future education. Of this Rs 14,57,680 was provided by Prerana, a social welfare trust of the employees of Infosys Ltd., Mangalore. Remaining funds were contributed by Dhrithi Foundation, YakshaganaKalaranga and Supraja Foundation.

The event was organized at Mangalore campus of Infosys Ltd., inaugurated by Mr. V K Talittaya, Chairman Primacy Industries, Mangalore. Other dignitaries present on the stage were Mr. Bhaskar Chiknanjundappa, Director i-Point Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Gangadhar Rao, Vice President, Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi and Mr. Raviraj Belma, Trustee, Prerana Trust, Infosys Mangalore.

Following the scholarship disbursement process, beneficiary students had interactive session on “Developing Personal Traits to become a True Professional” by Mr. Shreekanth Shenoy and “Career Guidance – What after PUC” by Mr. Rama Prasad from Infosys Ltd. which was well appreciated by all the students.

Prerana, the employee run CSR wing at Infosys Ltd., Mangalore focuses on creating a positive impact on the society by nurturing a culture of community welfare and development amongst Infoscions. This is the 7th year that Prerana Trust and Dhrithi Foundation and Yakshagana Kalaranga are extending support to the needy and meritorious students of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district.

Davanagere, Jan 19: Seven people, including four women, were arrested for allegedly selling a 13-month-old female baby here on Saturday.

Police said that the baby was sold to a couple who had no child. The couple hailed from Ranebennur town in Haveri District of Karnataka. They sold the baby, which was their fourth child.

The arrested were identified as Kavita (26) and her husband Manjunath (couple who sold the baby), Dakshayani (34) and her husband Ravi (49) of Ranebennur, Haveri District (the couple who purchased the baby, Chitramma (44) Nurse, Kamalamma (45) and Karibasappa, who acted as middlemen for the deal.

Mangaluru, Mar 27: A youth from Dakshina Kannada district, who had returned from United Arab Emirates earlier this month has tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 caused by the novel coronavirus. With this the total of Covid-19 in the district has mounted to seven. 

The fresh Covid-19 patient is a 21-year-old youth hailing from Karaya in Belthangady taluk. 

He had left Dubai on March 21 and land at Bengaluru Airport. Then he reached Belthangady through a KSRTC bus the very next morning. 

As he was suffering from fever and cough, he was admitted to Puttur government hospital on March 24. Same day his throat swab sample was sent for coronavirus testing. Today it was declared positive. 

His condition is said to be stable. However, his family members and those who were in touch with him are under observation.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: The Opposition Congress in Karnataka on Wednesday accused the BJP government, headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, of showing discrimination in distribution of relief material to those affected by the lockdown, clamped to check the spread of Novel Coronavirus, by favouring constituencies represented by the ruling BJP Legislators.

Despite that, the party intends to extend full cooperation to the government during this hour of crisis without indulging in politics, it urged the administration to be “transparent”.

''We have had our (Congress) Task Force meeting today, during which we discussed several matters. There is a lot of difference between the government's talk and its deeds,'' KPCC President D K Shivakumar said.
