Mangalore, Oct 28: Sunni Yuvajana Sangha and Association of District Muslim Unions on have decided to take to the streets in protest against the notice issued by Karnataka State Waft Board against performing Juma prayer at Mohiuddin Juma Masjid located at Melangady Ullal.

The organisations have jointly planned to hold a stir on October 31 against the decision of the Wakf Board. Scholars from community, priest and religious leaders will take part in protest, which will be held in front of deputy commissioner's office, in Mangalore said K Ashraf, convener of the Association at a news conference on Monday.

He said that the Wakf Board in its notice issued on October 24 to Mohiuddin Juma Masjid has declared that offering Juma prayers at the above masjid is “haram”. This statement is apparently against the Islamic'Shariah' and Muslim community condemns this kind of violations by the Board, he said.

“The police reportedly tried to prevent Juma prayers at the same Masjid on October 25 by arresting usthad and other community leaders. Here we have noticed the interference of Mangalore North MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava and Health Minister U T Khadar. They have to apologies,” he urged.

Briefing the reason for recent clashes in Ullal Masjid, Mr Ashraf said that earlier Friday prayers were offered in Ullal Dhargah but recently new Masjid have built near Melangady, which has 435 Muslim residents. “We had invited Dharga Khazi to inaugurate new Masjid but we could not meet him personally, since he was busy. Later with the help of Khazi of Mangalore we inaugurated Masjid,” he said.

Bengaluru, May 4: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar on Sunday condemned the arrest of women Congress leaders who were marching to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's house demanding action against BJP MLAs "caught" repacking food materials meant for Anganwadi children and pregnant women.

Taking to Twitter, Shivakumar posted pictures of the incident and wrote, "Strongly condemn the arrest of women congress leaders who were marching to the CM's house to ask for action against BJP MLAs caught repacking food materials meant for anganwadi children and pregnant women. Earlier, held a protest and PC demanding arrest of those involved in the scam."

Earlier on Sunday, Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah claimed that BJP leaders are "stealing" government grocery packets, pasting their photos and providing them to "well off party workers".

Taking to Twitter he wrote, "It is unfortunate that BJP leaders are exhibiting their political cruelty even during crisis. They are stealing govt food & grocery packets to paste their photos and then give it away to their well off party workers."

"Aravind Limbavali and other BJP leaders are caught branding themselves through the government distributed food packets. Nothing is more disgraceful and shameful than this. They should be made to resign & should be arrested," he wrote.

He further asserted that the Karnataka Chief Minister is directly responsible for the leakage. He has allowed his party workers to siphon off poor people's food.

"Shashikala Jolle (Minister of Women, Child Development and Empowerment of Differently Abled, Senior citizens, Govt of Karnataka) should immediately resign for her laxity and allowing her party people to steal from Anganwadi," he added.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Wednesday urged Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to waive all property taxes in urban local and rural panchayats for a period of one year as citizens are bearing a huge financial brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking to Twitter, Shivakumar wrote, "Citizens are bearing a huge financial brunt of the Corona Pandemic. It's imperative on the government to ease the financial burden on citizens. I urge CM B.S. Yediyurappa to waive all property taxes, in urban local bodies and rural panchayats, for a period of one year on humanitarian grounds."
In yet another demand, Shivakumar on Tuesday said the state government should give details of the amount it spent on migrants and labourers during the coronavirus crisis if it is transparent.

"The image of Karnataka has come to a very rotten position. We all know that Karnataka has failed in sorting out the problem. Let them (the state government) tell what has been the amount spent on the labour, migrants and food kits on the health department. We want an account (of the expenditure) if they are so transparent," Shivakumar said.

He said the state government should have approached the hospitals for treating COVID-19 patients and if any private hospital refused, a message should have been given that the government would take it over.

He also accused the state government of corruption.
