Number of Criminals will increase if Anti Cow Slaughter Law is imposed: U R Ananthamurthy

Bangalore, May 16: Prof. U R Ananthamurthy, a well known literateur and thinker has opined that the number of criminals may increase in the state if the Government of Karnataka imposed the anti-cow-slaughter law.

He was expressing his views at an interaction meeting of members of legislative assembly, writers, leaders of noted organisations and senior citizens of the stated organised at the Legislatives House in the city on Sunday, May 16 by Komu Sauharda Vedike to shed light on the demerits of anti-cow-slaughter bill.

Ananthamurthy said a Government should frame the laws with the intention of reducing the number of criminals, but unfortunately the State Government of Karnataka is coming up with new bills framed to increase the number of criminals.

Whoever thinks that cow-slaughtering for the purpose of food is a sin let them think so, but forcing others to think in a similar way is a crime, he said, adding that, “sin should not pave the way for crime”

“If the Government decides to ban on cow slaughter only for the reason that cow is a sacred animal for Hindus, it also should impose a similar ban on swine slaughtering as it is a filthy animal for the Muslims”, he said, reminding that this state and country belong not only to Hindus but also to Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and seculars.

Alleging the State Government led By Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa of exploring the politics of vote bank through anti-cow-slaughter bill, he clarified that those who raise their voice against the this bill are not fighting for Muslims but for the integrity of the society.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Azeem, a Member of Legislative Assembly said that there are approximately six thousand abattoirs in the state, where more than six thousand animals are being slaughtered for the sake of food. And if an anti-cow slaughter law is imposed in the state, a huge amount of money turnover will be stopped which will directly affect farmers.

Karwar, June 29: The additional sessions court, Sirsi town police station and office of the deputy superintendent of police in Uttara Kannada district were sealed on Sunday after an undertrial was found positive for Covid-19.

The undertrial, accused of stealing a bike, from Hubballi was arrested by Sirsi police and had initially tested negative. He was confirmed infected when his samples were tested the second time.

He was arrested by Dharwad police in connection with a bike theft case. During interrogation it was found that he had stolen bikes in Sirsi too. Sirsi police had brought him from Dharwad sub-jail for the interrogation and was produced in the court.

The accused was in Manipal jail for some time after he was convicted there for the bike theft. While bringing him to Sirsi the police had wore PPE kits.

When he was produced in the court the judge had reportedly directed the police test him for covid as he had some symptoms.

His swab was collected and sent to the lab. In the first test the result was negative but it was positive in another test. At that time he was in Sirsi sub-jail. 10 police officials who had come into his contact have been quarantined. The police station has been sealed down and the court will be closed down on Monday and Tuesday.

All the under trails who were kept with him in the sub-jail have been isolated and their swab has been sent for the testing.

Mangaluru, Aug 4: The Kasaragod district administration has decided to restore the e-pass system for daily commuters between Kasaragod and Mangaluru amid covid-19 crisis. 

As covid-19 cases began to increase in Dakshina Kannada, the Kasargod district administration had unilaterally newly introduced of daily pass system on July 6 for entry and exit from Talapady border. This had inconvenienced hundreds of employees, who visited Mangaluru daily to eke a living. 

The decision to resume the pass system was taken in a video conference of Kerala Revenue Minister Chandrasekharan with officials and elected representatives on August 3.

The minister said the Kasaragod district administration will resume issuing of passes for daily commuters between Kasaragod and Mangaluru. But they should undergo rapid antigen test for every week to renew their passes.

"Similarly, one-time interstate passes will be issued for those who want to take part in marriages, funeral and other functions in both states. Even they should undergo antigen test after returning from the functions,” the minister added.

As per the previous order, daily commuters, especially employees, had to stay in Mangaluru for 28 days before returning to Kasargod. Later, Kerala government relaxed rules on July 23 allowing only bank employees from Kasaragod to travel daily in their private vehicles to their workplace in Dakshina Kannada.

Bengaluru, July 25:  Karnataka reported 5,072 new COVID-19 positive cases and 72 deaths on Saturday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 90,942.

The total count includes 55,388 active cases and 1,796 deaths, the state health department said.

Meanwhile, a 100-year-old woman resident of Huvina Hadagali town in Bellary district here recovered from COVID-19 after testing positive for the virus earlier this month.

"Doctors treated me well. Along with regular food, I was eating an apple a day. The doctors are giving me tablets and injection, and I am healthy now. COVID-19 is like a common cold," said Hallamma while speaking to news agency.

The woman's son, daughter-in-law, and grandson had also tested positive for the virus, and the family was treated at their home.

India reported a spike of 48,916 coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the total number of reported COVID-19 cases to 13,36,861, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total count include 4,56,071 active cases, 8,49,431 cured/discharged/migrated. With 757 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 31,358.
