New Delhi, June 2: Gold prices breached Rs 30,000 mark for the first time today on heavy buying by stockists and retailers amid strong overseas trend, triggered by global financial uncertainty which has increased the metal's appeal as a safe investment haven.

Gold shot up by a hefty Rs 960 to touch a record high of Rs 30,300 per 10 grams in line with global rally where it jumped the most in ten months.

Traders said gold, both of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity, recorded the biggest single day gain of Rs 960 each to Rs 30,300 and Rs 30,160 per 10 grams, respectively.

Sovereign also shot up by Rs 350 to Rs 24,200 per piece of eight grams.

Marketmen said signs of weakening job growth in the US and deepening euro-zone debt crisis has increased metal's appeal. Increased demand from investors further fuelled the trading sentiment, they added.

In New York, gold jumped 4.24 per cent to USD 1,626.30 an ounce, the biggest rise since August 8.

Gold prices in global markets usually set the trend in the domestic markets.

Silver, in the bullion market here, also rose by Rs 650 to Rs 54,550 per kg in the local market. In New York, the metal rose by 3.5 per cent to USD 28.68 an ounce, the largest gain in two weeks.

Silver ready surged by Rs 650 to Rs 54,550 and weekly-based delivery by Rs 880 to Rs 54,510 per kg.

Silver coins spurted by Rs 1,000 to Rs 65,000 for buying and Rs 66,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Wayanad, Jan 30: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday compared Mahatma Gandhi assassin Nathuram Godse with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying both believed in the same ideology.

Gandhi, at an anti-CAA rally here, launched a scathing attack on Modi and said he was making Indians to prove that they are Indians.

Addressing participants at "Save the Constitution" march at Kalpetta in Wayanad, his Lok Sabha constituency on Martyr's Day, Gandhi said there was no difference between Godse and Modi.

"Today, an ignorant man is trying to challenge Gandhi's ideology. He is creating an atmosphere of hatred. The ideology is same. Nathuram Godse and Narendra Modi, they believe in the same ideology. There is no difference except that Modi does not have the guts to say he believes in the ideology of Godse," the Wayanad MP said.

Attacking the Prime Minister on the new Citizenship Law, Gandhi questioned Modi and asked who was he to ask Indians to prove that they were Indians.

"Indians are being made to prove that they are Indians. Who is Narendra Modi to decide who is an Indian. Who gave Modi the licence to ask for my Indianness? I know I am an Indian and I don't have to prove it to anyone. Likewise, 1.4 billion Indians do not have to prove that they are Indians," he said.

The Congress leader led the march here as part of efforts to intensify the party's protests against CAA in the state.

Panaji (Goa)/Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bengaluru(Karnataka)/New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): With the government allowing the re-opening of restaurants and eateries from Monday, these establishments re-opened across several states on Monday including in Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, with necessary precautions in place amid COVID-19 crisis.

Restaurants reopened in Panaji today after relaxations in lockdown.

Speaking to ANI, Goa Hotel and Restaurant Association President, Gaurish Dhond said, "We expect that not more than 25 per cent of restaurants will reopen because our labour force is dependent upon migrant workers who have gone to their homes".

"Every guest will be checked with a thermal gun, we will provide them with a sanitizer and a digital menu most probably. We would like to request our customers to pay online. Residential hotels are also allowed to operate and guidelines have been issued for them," he added.

Bars are not allowed to operate, he added.

While religious places across the country were thrown open today, worship places continued to remain closed in Goa till June 30.

In Bhopal restaurants opened but with fewer customers venturing to eat outside.

Speaking to ANI, C Kumaran, Manager, India Coffee House, New Market said, "We will conduct a temperature check for customers at the entry point. Then the customers will have to wash and sanitize their hands only then they will be allowed to sit inside. Only two persons will be allowed to sit on a four-seat table."

"This restaurant has a seating capacity of around 120 persons which has now been reduced to 50. Even in the kitchen, staff capacity has been reduced to 50 per cent," he added.

Meanwhile, malls re-opened in Bengaluru today, people along with staff members were allowed to enter inside Garuda Mall while maintaining social distancing.

"As per government norms, we are following all the preventive measures. Staff and other people are being sanitized and then only allowed inside the mall. The mall has been deep cleaned. People entering the mall should have Aarogya Setu App installed in their mobile phones if not, they will be sent back," said John Joseph, Manager, Garuda Mall.

Restaurants re-opened in the national capital as Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced yesterday that all restaurants and malls are allowed to resume operations from today.
