Salman Khurshid targets Team Anna after Kiran Bedi attacks PM

New Delhi, June 10: Law minister Salman Khurshid has hit out at Team Anna accusing them of getting personal and undemocratic in their fight against coruption.

With Team Anna member Kiran Bedi attacking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh once again, Khurshid said there are many questions which the anti-corruption crusaders also need to answer.

Hitting out at Team Anna, law minister said, "How come they never asked for a probe against themselves? We are at least subject to public scrutiny. We are willing for any public scrutiny. As you can see, the government has its own methods of keeping a check on what is happening in the country. But, I have not heard Team Anna ever having said we are willing for a probe."

He said the anti-coruption movement had started in the right direction but has now become personal.

"We all felt that they started off with a good idea, idea of containing corruption and questioning corruption was a good idea, but today they are doing the greatest disservice to this good idea by converting it into a personal campaign and a personal ambition. I will quite confidently say that the country will give them a suitable answer when the time comes," Khurshid said.

Earlier, Team Anna member Kiran Bedi invoked Mahabharata to attack Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the alleged irregularities in the coal block allocation.

"PMO clears Prime Minister. Did Dhritarashtra in Mahabharata not support Kauravas even after they attempted to disrobe Draupadi? Indian genes/culture? or?," Bedi tweeted.

She said Team Anna is focussed on the party in power at the Centre because it alone can give an effective central law not opposition.

Her remarks came after Prime Ministers Office wrote a letter to Anna Hazare rejecting their demands for setting up a Special Investigation Team to probe corruption allegations against Singh and his 14 Cabinet colleagues and setting up special fast-track courts for trying MPs accused of corruption.

Bedi had said yesterday that the letter to Hazare was "wishy-washy".

"PMO's letter to Anna ji on allegations made on PM and 14 ministers is absolutely wishy-washy," she had said.

After the PMO's letter, Team Anna has said it will go ahead with the indefinite fast from July 25 as planned.

Ayodhya, Aug 2: With the foundation laying ceremony of the grand Ram temple around the corner, the work at the stone-carving workshop of Ram Janambhoomi in Ayodhya has reached its final stage.

Speaking to news agency, caretaker of Ram temple stone workshop Hanuman Yadav said, "Stonework is ready for the construction work till the first floor of the temple. Cleaning work is almost done but some work is still left which will be done soon after the trust's meeting."

Talking about the characteristics of the sandstone chosen work the construction, he said, "It was chosen for the construction as it can withstand rigours for thousands of years. These designated stones are minutely carved according to the need of the temple."

The stone-carving workshop for the Ram temple construction was established in Ayodhya by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in 1990.

On August 5 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ayodhya for rituals that will mark the beginning of Ram temple construction, Hanumangarhi is the first stop he would be visiting.

The construction of Ram temple will begin in Ayodhya after the ceremony to lay the foundation stone in which various dignitaries from the political and religious fields are likely to participate apart from RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Kozhikode, Apr 28: The remains of seven people who died in the Gulf countries were airlifted from Dubai by a cargo flight which arrived here Tuesday, ending the uncertainty over bringing back the bodies of those who died following non-Covid-19 reasons.

Airport sources said the flight reached the airport by around noon.

The bodies include natives of Kerala, one each of people from Goa and Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu.

"Karipur in among the few airports where cargo flights are operating in South India.

This is the reason why the bodies of those belonging to Goa and Sivaganga and other parts of Kerala have all been brought here for onward transport to respective destinations by road," an airport official said.

"As per information received from the airport, the bodies are of John Johannan of Kollam, David Shamy of Punnakkal, Kannur, Sathyan of Cheranelloor, Thrissur, O C Mathai and Sijo Joy, both of Pathanamthitta, Sreenivasan of Sivaganga and Henrick D Soza of South Goa," said Thomas, Assistant Sub Inspector, Special Branch CID, Malappuram.

Special passes have been issued to ambulances to transport the bodies to their destinations after the formalities at the airport are over, a senior police officer said.

There had been some confusion on bringing back the bodies from the Gulf region for about a week for want of clearance from the embassy authorities.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week seeking his intervention in ensuring that bodies of Keralites, who die in Gulf countries due to no non COVID-19 reasons, should be broughtto the state without any delay forenabling family members to perform their last rites.

Vijayan also wanted Modi to direct Indian Embassies to issue necessary clearances without seeking individual approvals from the Ministry of Home Affairs and avoid any delay.

The mortal remains are now being broughtin cargo planes as passenger flights are not being operated due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Muscat, May 18: An Air India special flight left for Hyderabad with a total of 182 stranded Indians from Oman on Monday.

"IX 818 departed for Hyderabad with total 182 passengers. We again express our gratitude to Omani & Indian authorities and wish all the passengers, safe journey home," Indian embassy in Oman said in a tweet.

Under the Vande Bharat Mission, Air India operated repatriation flight from Oman on Sunday to Kerala. It had brought back 183 Indians.

The phased evacuation is being done under the Centre's 'Vande Bharat' mission whose second phase started from May 16.

In order to facilitate the return of stranded Indian nationals in Oman, the Indian government has decided to operate more special flights to Bangalore, Calicut, Delhi, Kannur, Kochi, and Gaya on May 20, 21, 22 and 23.

Under the second phase, a total of 149 flights, including feeder flights, are expected to be operated to bring back stranded Indians from 40 countries.
