New Delhi, Jun 11: The ongoing war of words between Team Anna and the government reached a new low on Sunday with one of the team members comparing the prime minister to the blind king in Mahabharata and a Union minister questioning the integrity of Anna Hazare’s followers.

Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a key member of Team Anna, Kiran Bedi, on Sunday sought to compare him to Dhritrashtra in the context of the alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks. Singh had rejected Hazare’s demand for setting up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the charges levelled against the Prime Minister and 14 of his cabinet ministers.

“The PMO clears Prime Minister. Did Dhritarashtra in Mahabharata not support Kauravas even after they attempted to disrobe Draupadi? Indian genes/culture? or?” Bedi tweeted.

She described Singh and his 14 cabinet colleagues as a “tainted team”, asserting that they would “never” give people an expeditious and strong criminal justice system.

“Do or die fast from July 25 for SIT probe on PM and 14 cabinet ministers. Tainted team may never give us an expeditious and strong criminal justice system,” she said.

Sharply reacting to Bedi’s comment, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid accused Team Anna of converting their anti-corruption movement into a “personal campaign”.

“They (Team Anna) have many, many questions they must first answer before asking questions to others,” Khurshid told reporters at Chennai airport, taking several questions from the media, shortly after arriving here.

“We are at least subject to public scrutiny. Every five years, we go through an election. People reject or accept our record and everything is available. We’re ready for any public scrutiny,” Khurshid maintained.

Khurshid said: “I don't think they have the right to ask questions and I don't think they are being very helpful and very good to democracy in our country." Khurshid, who is also in charge of the Law Ministry, said that “the people will give them a suitable answer when the time comes”.

“We all felt they started off with a good note. Idea of containing corruption and questioning corruption was a good idea. But today, they are doing greatest disservice to this idea by converting it into a personal campaign and personal ambition,” the minister said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demanded a probe into the allegations made against the Cabinet ministers in the alleged coal scam.

“Nobody suspects Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. But the way in which his government is drowned in corruption and scams, it is natural that the taint reaches him also. This war of words between the civil society and government should end. The government should order an investigation,” BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

New Delhi, Feb 5: Days after a gunman opened fire in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh, the epicentre of anti-CAA movement, YouTuber Gunja Kapoor was detained at the protest site on Wednesday after she was caught covertly filming the protests in a burqa.

Kapoor runs the channel ‘Right Narrative’ on YouTube and her pinned tweet on Twitter says she is followed on the microblogging site by PM Narendra Modi.

According to police, the protesters turned suspicious after Kapoor asked them "too many questions". She was caught by some of the women protesters after they identified her as the popular YouTuber. The incident led to a commotion at Shaheen Bagh, the epicentre of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a senior police official said.

She was taken to Sarita Vihar police station where her identity was ascertained, police said.

The incident sparked outrage on social media. Many took to Twitter to question why Kapoor was at the protest in disguise. Others expressed concern about her motives at secretly filming the protests.

Meanwhile, praises flew in for the women of Shaheen Bagh who can be seen defending Kapoor from angry protesters after she was caught.

This is not the first time that a right wing social media activist has landed in trouble in Shaheen Bagh where residents and other women and children have been sitting in protest for nearly two months since the passing of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 in December last year.

In January, Deepa Sharma had posted videos online about the "traumatic" experience she had when she was allegedly heckled and harassed by Shaheen Bagh protesters. While the woman's claim could never be verified, other pieces of rampant fake news aimed at delegitimising and villainising protesters has taken social media by storm.

From doctored videos of women protesters allegedly accepting they were paid Rs 500 to attend protests to alleged fights over biriyani and anti-India sloganeering, trolls on social media seem to be working overtime to taint the ongoing protests.

The latter, however, show no signs of giving up. In fact, as Delhi nears elections on February 8, protesters have arranged for music performances by eminent artists, including pop celebrity Prateek Kuhad, till February 7.

Sit in protests take place 24x7 with women showing up in thousands to spend the night and sing songs of protest. And with polls around the corner, the protests have become an active part of political discourse with Aam Aadmi Party's Manish Sisodia expressing his support for the protesters at a recent press conference.

Ayodhya, Aug 5: After laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the 'bhoomi pujan' event as an "emotional moment" for the entire country and added that "every heart is illuminated today".

"Every heart is illuminated; it is an emotional moment for the entire country... A long wait ends today... A grand temple will now be built for our Ram Lalla who had been living under a tent for many years," said Prime Minister Modi at foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Ram temple.

"With the construction of this temple, not only history is being made, but is being repeated.

The way boatmen to tribals helped Lord Ram, the way children helped Lord Krishna lift Govardhan mountain, similarly, with everyone's efforts temple construction will be completed," he added.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi conducted 'bhoomi pujan' for the construction work of Ram temple.
