Amritsar, July 15: Hindus were perturbed at the portrayal of goddess Kali giving the appearance of a porn-star in an upcoming online action video game SMITE which is being developed by Georgia (USA) headquartered Hi-Rez Studios, informed President of Universal Society of Hinduism, Rajan Zed from Nevada, USA, on Sunday.

Zed said portrayal of goddess Kali was quite disturbing for the devotees who worshipped her in temples or home shrines on a regular basis.

"It was denigration and belittling of the entire community" he said. Zed said he had asked the online video game developer Hi-Rez Studios to immediately remove the Kali and other Hindu gods (Vamana and Agni) from the game as it trivialized the highly revered and sacred deities of Hinduism.

Zed, however informed that representatives of various religions including Catholics, Jews and Buddhists had come out in the support of Hindus who were upset at this inappropriate usage of Kali and other Hindu deities.

"Roman Catholic leader in Nevada Father Charles T Durante, prominent Jewish leader in Western USA Rabbi ElizaBeth W Beyer and distinguished Buddhist leader from Nevada Reverend Jikai' Phil Bryan have issued separate statements backing the cause of protesting Hindus" he informed.

He said in the game, the player would control and manipulate goddess Kali and other Hindu deities, which was highly inappropriate as in reality the devotees put the destinies of themselves in the hands of their deities.

"Reimagining Hindu scriptures and deities for commercial or other agenda is not okay as it hurt the devotees" he said.

Jan 27: Bollywood Film Director Anurag Kashyap, who has been vocal about his political views on social media, slammed Union Minister Amit Shah and accused him of being 'cheap'.

"How timid our Home Minister is. Its own police, its own goons, its own army and security increases and invades unarmed protestors. Amit Shah has crossed the extent of cheapness and inferiority. History will spit on this animal," Kashyap tweeted.

The film director has taken an active part in the anti-Citizenship Act protest rallies and was against the Jawaharlal Nehru violence. He also came in support of his contemporary Deepika Padukone when the latter faced backlash for showing up at JNU in support of the students.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 23: Amid a spurt in coronavirus cases, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has asked the Centre to give the states authority to give clearances for manufacturing masks, gloves and sanitisers.

In a letter addressed to prime minister Narendra Modi, Vijayan said during the crisis, masks and sanitisers are needed in large numbers.

"As an interim, states must be given authority to give clearances of manufacturing of items related to medical devices, sanitisers, chemicals, etc. which are needed for fighting Covid-19," Vijayan said in the letter.

He also sought permission for the state home department to use drones for the relevant applications related to Covid-19.

"In China and elsewhere in the world, drones have been used extensively in minimising human contact, disinfection, etc. Unfortunately, with the current laws pertaining to the use of drones, none of these is possible in India," the chief minister said.

He also sought permission to access and use facilities available with all central institutions and research labs operating in the state.

The chief minister shared the letter on his Twitter handle.

With 15 new positive cases of Covid-19, the total number of infected persons in Kerala had gone up to 67, including the three who were discharged after recovery last month.

The headquarters were decorated with blue and white balloons and big cut-outs of Kejriwal were placed in different parts of the party office.

"We knew it. We have changed the politics of this country. Now it is Delhi, next is India," said Sanjeev Singh, a party volunteer from Hari Nagar.

Another volunteer Fareen Khan said, "We hope we get such a clear majority that a message goes out that doing Hindu-Muslim politics will not work anymore."
