Hazare begins indefinite fast

New Delhi, July 29: Anna Hazare Sunday began his indefinite fast against corruption at Jantar Mantar, joining other Team Anna members who have been agitating here since July 25.

"He has been fasting since morning," a Team Anna member told IANS. The members, led by Arvind Kejriwal, began their indefinite fast Wednesday to press for a strong Jan Lokpal Bill and demanding an inquiry into allegations of corruption against over a dozen ministers.

Hazare, 75, had said that he would join the fast from July 29 if the government failed to take immediate steps to check corruption in high places. His indefinite fast is expected to inject some life into the agitation which has so far received a lukewarm response.

Team Anna has the permission to fast at Jantar Mantar till Aug 8, the day the parliament's monsoon session is expected to begin. This is Hazare's third indefinite hunger strike demanding a strong Jan Lokpal Bill to check corruption at all levels. His earlier protests led to a nationwide movement.

Hyderabad, Feb 10: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi continued his tirade against PM Modi and Amit Shah against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). "We are ready to take bullets in our chests but we will not show our papers.

We are ready to take bullets in our chests as we love our country," Owaisi said further.

Guwahati, Jan 26: Four powerful grenade explosions--three in Dibrugarh and one in Charaideo districts--rocked Assam Sunday morning as the country celebrated Republic Day, police said.

In Dibrugarh district, an explosion took place at Graham Bazar and another beside a gurudwara on A T Road, both under Dibrugarh police station.

Another explosion rocked the oil town of Duliajan whose details are still awaited, police said.

Another explosion rocked Teok Ghat under Sonari police station of Charaideo district, they said.

Senior officials have rushed to the explosion sites and details of casualty are awaited, police added.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 30: Kerala reported 32

fresh cases of coronavirus on Monday, with the worst affected Kasaragod district alone accounting for 17 cases.

Kannur reported 15 cases, while Wayanad and Idukki reported two each, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters here after a COVID-19 review meeting.

Of the 32 cases, 17 had come from abroad and 15 had been infected through contact.

A total of 213 people are presently under treatment in Kerala.

At least 1.50 lakh people are under surveillance in the state and 623 are in isolation wards of various hospitals.
