Chandigarh, August 11: As former Haryana Minister and Independent MLA Gopal Kanda remained elusive, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday said he should join the investigations in the suicide case of air-hostess Geetika Sharma like a law-abiding citizen.

“They (law-breaking people) should join investigations like a law-abiding citizen,” Mr. Hooda told reporters here after being pointed out that Mr. Kanda had gone incommunicado following the suicide of Sharma, who named Kanda in her suicide note.

On being pressed that Mr. Kanda is allegedly evading arrest, the Chief Minister said that “anybody (whose name crops up in any case) not joining investigations is unfair“.

“As a law-abiding citizen anybody (whose name crops in any case) should join investigations,” he stressed.

On being asked whether Haryana police was allegedly sheltering Mr. Kanda, Mr. Hooda shot back “he was a minister in my government and now he has resigned“.

“You (media) tell me where he is,” he emphasised after being questioned about Kanda’s whereabouts since the registration of case by Delhi police.

“The case is with Delhi police...law will take its own course,” he said.

He exuded confidence that the position of the government is on a strong footing despite Kanda’s alleged entanglement in the suicide case of the air-hostess.

When the Chief Minister’s attention was drawn towards some Independent MLAs allegedly bringing bad name to the government like Mr. Kanda’s name cropping up in a suicide case and another former minister O P Jain’s name figuring in a murder case, Mr. Hooda said “Kanda is not a minister in his government and the state government is not concerned with what Kanda does“.

On being asked about the lock-up in Maruti’s Manesar plant due to the clash between workers and management, he said that it was upto the management of the company when it re-starts the operation of its plant.

“The state government had stationed enough force at Manesar to deal with any eventuality,” he added.

New Delhi, Jun 18: Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday removed Sanjay Jha as a party spokesperson, days after he wrote a newspaper article criticising the party. She also approved the appointment of Abhishek Dutt and Sadhna Bharti as national media panelists for the Congress.

"Congress president has also approved that Sanjay Jha be dropped as AICC spokesperson with immediate effect," the party said in an official statement.

In the article published a few days ago, Mr Jha had said, "The Congress has demonstrated extraordinary lassitude, and its lackadaisical attitude towards its own political obsolescence is baffling..."

"I would like to call a spade a spade here and a shovel: there has been no serious effort to get the party up and running with any sense of urgency," he had said in the article in a national newspaper.

"There are many in the party who cannot comprehend this perceptible listlessness. For someone like me, for instance, permanently wedded to Gandhian philosophy and Nehruvian outlook that defines the Congress, it is dismaying to see its painful disintegration," he had said.
