New Delhi, September 20: Facing fire, not just from allies and Opposition, but also the aam admi over its big ticket reforms, UPA-II is desperately looking for a makeover. The government has now sanctioned Rs 100 crore to advertisements on television, radio and in print.
Even as the government's fate hangs in the balance, it is trying all possible ways to reach out to the aad aadmi with explanations in all national dailies and promises of Bharat Nirman.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that the government has sanctioned over Rs 100 crore for TV, radio and print commercials showcasing the government's achievements. After singers like Kailash Kher, the government is also planning to rope in other big names for its TVCs.
But it remains to be seen if that will impress the people.
Under attack, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), too, is using all tools at its disposal, recounting the achievements of the UPA government under its slogan of 'Reforms to Reality'.
Congress leader Renuka Chowdhary said, "We are not trying to justify anything, we're not being defensive. We're just trying to raise awareness and tell the people about what all we have achieved."
Is Reforms to Reality UPA's India Shining? Will the desperate Congress be able to able to light up its seemingly uncertain and dim future with an aggressive ad campaign? Not many are willing to out their money on it.
