IOC slashes petrol price by 56 paise

New Delhi, October 9: State-run Indian Oil Corporation slashed petrol prices by Rs 0.56 per litre from Monday night, giving some relief to inflation-battered common man.

The revision, however, excludes the state levies, the IOC said in a statement.

The prices were revised downward due to the rupee appreciating against the dollar in the recent past, giving some relief to oil companies in the import of the commodity from the international market.

“Presently, the rupee-dollar exchange rate has shown an appreciating trend. The international oil prices, however, continue to remain firm casting their shadow on petrol prices,” the IOC said.

It said, the trends in the international oil market and dollar-rupee exchange rate will be closely monitored and will be reflected in future price changes.

The two other public sector fuel retailers, namely Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) have not yet announced their decision to cut pump prices for petrol, but are expected to take a decision soon. Petrol prices were last revised on June 28, when it were slashed by Rs 2.46 per litre.

The oil marketing companies have incurred a loss of Rs 2600 crore approximately on sale of petrol during April-September this year due to inability to change retail selling prices to the desired extent in line with market conditions, the IOC statement said.

70-paise cut in Bangalore

N Bhushan Narang, president of the Karnataka Petroleum Dealers Association, said the reduction in petrol prices is applicable only to IOC-owned petrol bunks as HP?and BPCL are yet to announce the reduction. “HP?and BPCL may announce slash in the petrol prices by Tuesday or Wednesday,” he said.

Narang further said the reduction of petrol prices in Bangalore city would be by around 70 paise per litre.

Jammu & Kashmir, Feb 7: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, besides two political stalwarts from NC and its arch-rival PDP were booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) by the administration on Thursday, officials said.

A magistrate accompanied by police served the order to Mufti at the bungalow where she has been detained, the officials said.

Abdullah was also booked under the PSA, they said.

National Conference general secretary and former minister Ali Mohammed Sagar, who wields a support base in downtown city, was served with a PSA notice public order by the authorities.

Similarly, senior PDP leader Sartaj Madani was booked under the PSA. Madani is the maternal uncle of former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Both Sagar and Madani were detained in the aftermath of August 5 crackdown by the Centre on politicians following abrogation of special status of the erstwhile state, besides its bifurcation into two union territories.

Their six-month preventive custody was ending on Thursday.

Earlier, the officials had said that former NC legislator Bashir Ahmed Veeri was also booked under the PSA but later it turned out that he had been released.

Ayodhya, Aug 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday recalled the significance of the path of 'maryada' associated with Lord Ram in the backdrop of the situation created by COVID-19 and emphasised the importance of social distancing and wearing face masks.

He said that the current situation demands 'maryada' should be 'do gaz ki doori, mask hai zaroori' and exhorted everyone to follow it.

In his speech after laying the foundation stone of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Prime Minister said the temple of Lord Ram will inspire and guide humans for ages to come.

He said that the path of `maryada' followed by Lord Ram is all the more necessary today in the situation created by COVID-19.

"The `maryada' (need) today is do gaj ki doori, mask hai jaroori (keep distance of two yards, wear mask). The Almighty may keep all the citizens healthy and happy, this is my prayer. The blessings of Mother Sita and Shri Ram be always there on the citizens," he said.

The Prime Minister termed the occasion as historic and said that India is starting a glorious chapter when people across the country are excited and emotional to have finally achieved what they had been waiting for centuries.

New Delhi, Apr 14: With 1,211 fresh cases of coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country has reached 10,363 including 339 deaths, said Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, here on Tuesday.

As many as 1,036 people have recovered from the disease so far, said Aggarwal during the daily media briefing on the coronavirus. "In one day, 179 people were diagnosed and found cured," he added.

"A total of 10,363 confirmed cases have been reported in India including 339 deaths and 1,036 people, who were COVID-19 positive have recovered. Out of the total deaths, 31 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours," said Aggarwal.

Aggarwal said that an evaluation of each district and city will be done till April 20.

"An evaluation of each district and city will be done till April 20 in which it will be evaluated what measures did that authorities take in these cities and districts to combat COVID-19," he said.

"Based on the results of this litmus test approach, permission will be granted for some selective activities to those districts and cities which controlled the situation effectively. Detailed guidelines will be issued soon," he added.
