Investors richer by over Rs 1 lakh cr as shares surge

Mumbai, November 28: Investor wealth today swollen by over Rs 1 lakh crore on all-round buying in stock market after credit rating agency Moody's said India's outlook is stable and agreement over debt relief package to Greece that boosted markets globally.

The BSE barometer Sensex closed with gains of 305.07 points or 1.65 per cent at 18,842.08 points.

Total investor wealth moved up by Rs 1,06,767 crore to Rs 65,94,019.45 crore.

Buying was so strong that all 13 sectoral indices closed with gains of up to 3.2 per cent. Of the 30 Sensex stocks, 28 scrips registered gains and only NTPC and ONGC closed with minor losses.

"Positive international cues and reaffirmation of stable outlook on India by Moody's sentimentally aided the rise in the markets," Inventure Growth & Securities, Head Research, Milan Bavishi said.

Moody's said today that the outlook on its Baa3 rating for India is stable, in part due to the country's high savings and investment rates.

The eurozone and IMF threw a new lifeline to Greece releasing funds to avert bankruptcy and admitting that help to reduce debt will be needed for years.

PM Modi, Jordan king discuss challenges posed by COVID-19

New Delhi, Apr 17: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held talks with Jordan King Abdullah II and discussed the challenges posed to the world by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The two leaders discussed the challenges posed to the world by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the steps being taken in their respective countries to limit its impact," an official statement said.

Prime Minister conveyed his greetings to Abdullah II and the people of Jordan for the upcoming Holy month of Ramadan which commences late next week.

The leaders agreed that their teams would remain in touch on issues related to COVID-19, as well as on other regional and global issues.

Leaders are feeling suffocated in Cong: Amit Shah asks party to self-introspect

New Delhi, Jun 25: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday hit out at Congress for "unceremoniously sacking" its spokesperson and said that leaders in the opposition party are "feeling suffocated".

To substantiate his point, Shah referred to the recent Congress Working Committee (CWC) meet in which senior members and younger members raised a few issues, however, they were "shut down".

Taking to Twitter, Shah posted two English dailies' articles titled -- "Not scared of PM Modi, but many in the party dodge him: Rahul at Congress Working Committee meet" and "Congress removes Sanjay Jha as party spokesperson after critical article".

Last week, Jha was dropped as AICC spokesperson and Abhishek Dutt and Sadhna Bharti appointed as National Media Panelist of Congress party.

"During the recent CWC meet, senior members and younger members raised a few issues. But, they were shouted down. A party spokesperson was unceremoniously sacked. The sad truth is - leaders are feeling suffocated in Congress," the Union Minister tweeted.

Meanwhile, Shah also targetted Congress on the completion of 45 years of emergency, which was imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975 and asked the party to self introspect.

"As one of India's opposition parties, Congress needs to ask itself: Why does the Emergency mindset remain? Why are leaders who do not belong to 1 dynasty unable to speak up? Why are leaders getting frustrated in Congress? Else, their disconnect with people will keep widening," he wrote.

Delhi reports 91 new COVID-19 positive cases in last 24 hrs; total rises to 384

New Delhi, Apr 3: The total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi has risen to 384, including 259 who were evacuated from Nizamuddin Markaz, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday.

In last 24 hours, 91 new cases were reported in the national capital and one more person evacuated from the Markaz died due to coronavirus, taking the total number of deaths in the city to five, he said.

Of the 384 cases, 58 had recent foreign travel history and 38 contracted the virus after coming in contact with them, he added.

Kejriwal said community spread of the virus is not taking place in Delhi yet and there is no need to panic as the situation is under control.

The government has made preparations if the virus starts spreading among people, he said.

The chief minister also launched a WhatsApp helpline - 8800007722 for people to enquire about COVID-19, food banks, shelters among others.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and experts will interact with students and answer their queries related to the virus at 3 pm on Saturday.
