Protests continue in Delhi

rape_copyNew Delhi, December 31: Demanding justice for 23-year-old woman who was gang-raped in a moving bus, the protests refuse to die down, as people are gathering at Jantar Mantar in central Delhi again Monday, a day after she was cremated.

 

Various student groups, women activists and citizens said the protest would continue. "We will fight for the girl. I'm on hunger strike for the past three days and will continue till the gang rape victim gets justice and the fast-track courts to hear cases of sexual harassment," Babusingh Ram, one among the two sitting on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar told a news channel.

 

Students organisation All India Students Association (AISA) have decided to organise a protest march at 3 p.m. at the Central Park in Connaught Place. "We are expecting at least a thousand students to participate in the march. We wil raise our voice voice till our demands are met," Sucheta De, general secretary, AISA told IANS.

 

Meanwhile Delhi Police has not made any traffic restrictions during the day, but have made restrictions from 7 p.m. Monday evening on New Year's eve. "No vehicle will be allowed after 7 p.m. in and around Connaught Place in central Delhi beyond Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg crossing, Bengali Market, and Chelmsford Road," a Delhi traffic police advisory said.

 

Apart from this, three Metro Stations - Rajiv Chowk, Barakhamba Road and Patel Chowk - will shut down early at 7.30 p.m. Monday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said Sunday.

 

"The commuters will not be allowed to enter or leave the three stations because of security restrictions for New Year celebrations," Delhi Metro said in a statement. Tickets will not be sold at these stations after 7.15 p.m.

 

However, the passengers will be able to interchange stations at Rajiv Chowk till 11 p.m. All other stations on the Delhi Metro network will function as usual. The 23-year-old victim, who was gang-raped Dec 16 in a moving bus was quitely cremated Sunday morning after her body was flown in from Singapore, where she succumbed to her injuries in a hospital.

Kozhikode, Aug 8: A family of five, returning to their hometown at Koducalli in Kozhikode from Dubai, were aboard the fateful Air India Express flight that crash-landed at the Kozhikode airport claiming at least 18 lives on Friday.

Saifudheen, 40, is a businessman in Dubai. During the vacation when schools were closed here, his wife Fasalunnisa travelled, along with their children Muhammad Shahil, Fathima Sana and Aysha Shanza, to meet her husband.

On Friday, they were all travelling in the Air India aircraft to Kozhikode.

All five have received injuries and have been admitted to Baby Memorial Hospital Kozhikode except Sana, who is admitted to Al Shifa Hospital at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram.

"Saifudheen is my uncle. He and his family members were returning from Dubai when this unfortunate incident occurred. We were informed about the mishap at 8 pm. Now the family members have been shifted to Baby Memorial Hospital and everyone is fine now," Muhammad Salih, nephew of Saifudheen said.

The death toll in the flight crash landing incident at Kozhikode International Airport in Kerala rose to 18, including two pilots, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Saturday.

The minister said that he will visit the Kozhikode airport to take stock of the situation.

Two special relief flights have been arranged from Delhi and one from Mumbai for rendering humanitarian assistance to all the passengers and the family members.

Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Flight Safety Departments have reached to investigate the incident, the Air India Express stated.

New Delhi, Jan 22: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has assets worth Rs 3.4 crore, an increase of Rs 1.3 crore from 2015, according to his election affidavit.

Kejriwal's total assets were worth Rs 2.1 crore in 2015.

The cash and fixed deposits of Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal increased from Rs 15 lakh in 2015 to Rs 57 lakh in 2020.

A party functionary said Rs 32 lakh worth cash and fixed deposits have been received by Sunita Kejriwal as voluntary retirement benefits while the rest are savings.

The cash and fixed deposits of the chief minister increased from Rs 2.26 lakh in 2015 to Rs 9.65 lakh in 2020.

There was no change in the value of immovable assets of his wife while Kejriwal's immovable assets' worth increased from Rs 92 lakh to Rs 177 lakh.

The party functionaries said increase in Kejriwal's immovable assets' worth is due to the increased valuation of the same asset as in 2015.

May 10: Delhi recorded five more deaths due to coronavirus, while 381 fresh cases of the virus were reported, the city government said on Sunday.

With the fresh cases, the virus tally in the national capital has climbed to 6,923.

Between midnight of May 8 and midnight of May 9, five fresh fatalities due to the virus were reported, taking the death toll to 73, the government said in its health bulletin.

While there are 4,781 active cases of the virus in the city, 2069 patients have so far recovered from COVID-19.
