Advani skips BJP national executive meet in Goa citing 'ill health'

Panaji, Jun 8: Perhaps for the first time in the BJP's history, L K Advani on Saturday skipped the party's national executive meeting against the backdrop of his pursued opposition to project Narendra Modi as head of the campaign committee for the next Lok Sabha elections.

85-year-old Advani cited "ill health" as the reason behind not attending the meeting. The national executive meeting is expected to discuss Modi's role in the general elections.

Advani's presence on the second day of the conclave tomorrow is also uncertain.

Role of Modi in the next general elections to be held in 2014 has divided BJP - while some pushing for him and others close to Advani opposing him.

Apparently to show opposition, leaders like Uma Bharti, Jaswant Singh, Yogi Adityananth are not attending the national executive meeting.

New Delhi, May 10: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured audit of donations made to the PM-CARES Fund, and to share the details and the money spent with the people.

"The PM-CARES Fund has received huge contributions from PSUs and major public utilities like the Railways. It's important that the Prime Minister ensure the fund is audited and that the record of money received and spent is available to the public," he tweeted.

His remarks came amid reports that the central government is accumulating a huge sum of money in the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund set up as a corpus to fight novel coronavirus and that the amount spent will not be audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General.

The CAG office had clarified that since the fund is based on donations, it has no right to audit a charitable organisation.

On Friday, Rahul Gandhi told the media that the PM-CARES Fund should be audited and people of the country should know about the donors and the donations made.

New Delhi, Jan 31: Slamming the BJP over the Jamia firing incident, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said such incidents were possible with the ruling party's leaders inciting people to shoot, and asked Prime minister Narendra Modi to answer whether he stands with violence or non-violence.   

Her attack on the government comes a day after tensions in the Jamia area spiralled on Thursday after a man fired a pistol at a group of anti-CAA protesters, injuring a student, before walking away while waving the firearm above his head and shouting "Yeh lo aazadi" amid heavy police presence in the area.

"When the BJP government ministers and party leaders incite people to shoot, give provocative speeches, then all this becomes possible. The Prime Minister should answer what kind of a Delhi he wants to build?" Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

Does the PM stand with violence or non-violence, she asked.

"Does he stand with development or with anarchy?" the Congress general secretary said.
