Shiv Sena welcomes Modi tag of Hindu nationalist

Shiv_SenaMumbai, Jul 16: Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Monday came out in support of Narendra Modi for describing himself as a patriotic Hindu. "Modi has said nothing wrong. Is it a crime to call yourself a Hindu in this country?" Uddhav asked. He was talking to mediapersons after inaugurating the party's renovated headquarters at Nariman Point.

Uddhav said that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar should not have severed ties with the BJP after Modi's elevation as head of the BJP's poll panel.

Sena mouthpiece Saamna, too, defended Modi's remark. Slamming the Congress for practicing pseudo-secularism, Saamna reminded its readers that it was Bal Thackeray who had riled the Congress for appeasing the Muslim community for votes.

"Balasaheb was harsher. As a key player in electoral politics, Modi has to exercise certain restraint," Saamna stated.

The Sena will offer legal aid to the cops sentenced to life imprisonment in the Lakhan Bhaiyya fake encounter case, Uddhav said. "We will do all we can for the well-being of the convicted cops' families," he said. Ridiculing the food security Bill, Uddhav said the Congress's heart has begun to bleed for the poor ahead of the elections.

"Foodgrain were rotting in government godowns last year. But, the UPA did nothing to ensure that wheat, rice and pulses reached the poor. Now, they are talking of feeding the poor because they want votes," he added.

New Delhi, Jul 2: India's COVID-19 tally breached the 6 lakh cases mark with 19,148 new coronavirus cases being reported in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

The total cases now stand at 6,04,641 of which there are 2,26,947 active cases while 3,59,860 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

434 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours taking the number of COVID-19 deaths in the country to 17,834.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, has a total of 1,80,298 cases including 8,053 fatalities. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has 94,049 cases inclusive of 1,264 deaths.

Delhi has 89,802 coronavirus cases including 2,803 deaths.

New Delhi, Jun 1: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday asked airlines to allot seats in flights in such a manner that middle seats are kept vacant to the extent possible.

However, if a flyer has been allotted the middle seat due to a high passenger load "then additional protective equipment like the wrap-around gown of the Ministry of Textile approved standards" must be provided to that passenger in addition to three-layered face mask and face shield, said the DGCA order, which has been accessed by news agency.

India resumed its domestic passenger flights from May 25 after a gap of two months due to the coronavirus-triggered lockdown. International commercial passenger flights continue to remain suspended in the country.

Aug 3: Iqbal Ansari, who was a litigant in the Ayodhya land dispute case, has decided to gift a 'Ram nami' stole and a copy of the Ramcharitmanas to Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he attends the bhoomi pujan ceremony for the Ram temple here on Wednesday.

"Yes, I have received the invitation from Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for the bhoomi pujan ceremony. I will certainly attend it. The dispute is over now after the court's verdict," Ansari, 69, told .

"Our Prime Minister is coming. I will meet him and give him a 'Ramnami' stole (with Ram's name written on it) and Ramcharitmanas as a present," Ansari said.

His father Hashim Ansari, the oldest litigant in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi land dispute case, died at the age of 95 in 2016 after which the son started pursuing the case in the court.

Talking about Wednesday's ground-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of the construction of a grand Ram temple here, Ansari said, "I belong to Ayodhya. All this (temple's construction) will change the fate of Ayodhya. We all want our child to get better opportunities".

He further said, "I respect sadhus and saints. I am happy to have received the invitation for the ceremony. I think it is Lord Ram's will that I attend it".

When asked what he would have done had the court decided the case in his favour, Ansari said he had wanted the construction of a school and a hospital on the disputed land.

"I feel the city needs development. The future of our children should be safe and secure and they should get employment. Dispute in the name of religion should end now and we should let the city witness a new beginning," he said.

The Supreme Court had in November last year paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple by a Trust at the disputed site of the Babri Masjid's demolition in Ayodhya, and directed the Centre to allot an alternative 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a new mosque at a "prominent" place in the holy town in Uttar Pradesh.

The state government has allotted a five-acre land in Dhannipur village in Sohaval Tehsil of Ayodhya for the mosque's construction.
