Six injured in grenade blast by suspected ULFA militants

Guwahati, Jul 28: At least six persons including two police personnel were tonight injured in a grenade blast carried out by suspected ULFA militants at the busy Paltan Bazar area near the railway station here, police said.

"The blast took place at around 7:55 pm near the Paltan Bazar police station, which is next to the railway station. Six persons have been injured, two of whom are police home guards," Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Agnihotri told reporters.

The grenade was hurled when police personnel were checking vehicles at GS Road. Of the six injured, the condition of two are stated to be serious, he said. The injured have been admitted to GMC Hospital here.

"We have to investigate who did this, but the inputs say that the suspect is ULFA," Agnihotri added. ULFA militants normally try to create trouble during the run-up to the Independence Day. On the e-trip system of tax collection in Punjab, the Chief Minister said it was adopted to streamline the process by plugging loopholes.

"Under the system, no new tax has been imposed. But, traders have been asked to give details of their transactions above Rs 50,000," he said. Three thermal plants would be commissioned in the state within six months after which Punjab would become power surplus, Badal said.

New Delhi, Jun 10: India on Wednesday reported a spike of 9,985 more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's COVID-19 count to 2,76,583, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

279 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours taking the total death toll to 7,745.

The total number of active cases has reached 1,33,632 while 1,35,205 patients have recovered. While one person has migrated.

With 90,787 cases, Maharashtra reported the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country followed by Tamil Nadu with 34,914 cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,45,216 samples were tested in the last 24 hours while overall 50,61,332 samples have been tested so far.

Mar 4: Twenty-one Italian tourists and three Indian tour operators have been sent to an ITBP quarantine facility in Delhi on Tuesday for suspected coronavirus exposure, official sources said.

Health Ministry sources said these foreigners, 13 women and eight men, were in the same group of which an Italian and his wife have tested positive in Rajasthan capital Jaipur.

“His (Italian in Jaipur) condition is stable,” a source said.

Three Indians, who were accompanying this Italian group as tour operators, have also been sent to the ITBP facility in Chhawla area of south-west Delhi, they said.

All these people, staying at a five-star hotel in south Delhi, have been put in “preventive isolation” at the ITBP camp and their samples will be taken on Wednesday, sources said.

The centre already has 112 people, 76 Indians and 36 foreigners, since February 27 after they were evacuated by an IAF plane from Wuhan in China, the epicentre of the coronavirus.

The first samples of these 112 people had tested negative when reports came in last week.

New Delhi, Jan 14: One of the four Nirbhaya gang rape convicts, who are scheduled to be hanged on January 22, moved a mercy plea before President Ram Nath Kovind to set aside the death sentence issued against him.

He also moved the Delhi High Court to set aside the death warrant issued by a trial court. This hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before a bench of Justices Manmohan and Sangita Dhingra Sehgal.

The petition, filed through advocate Vrinda Grover, seeks setting aside of the January 7 order issuing the warrant of his execution.
