NIA believes Aseemanand not involved in Malegaon blasts

July 30, 2013

New Delhi, Jul 30: Former RSS activist Naba Kumar Sarkar alias Aseemanand, whose confession in December 2010 led to the unraveling of a saffron terror conspiracy behind the 2006 Malegaon blasts apart from several other attacks, may himself be never charged in the case. National Investigation Agency (NIA), which left him out in its recently filed chargesheet in the case, believes that Aseemanand was actually not involved in the blasts that killed 37 people.aseema

Sources said Aseemanand was not in the know of the impending attacks beforehand and came to know of the blasts and a Hindutva fundamentalist conspiracy behind it only after they had occurred. In his confession too, Aseemanand mentions that it was slain RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi who informed him that his boys were behind the blasts.

"In fact, in the beginning, Aseemanand laughed off claims made by Joshi who felt hurt by this. Aseemanand even asked Joshi to reveal the names of the people who executed the attacks if he wanted him to believe the claims. But Joshi refused to do so," a senior NIA officer said.

However, in 2007, Joshi did take Aseemanand into confidence before executing the Ajmer Dargah blasts and thus started Aseemanand's active participation in blasts planned by Joshi. One of the key conspirators in the blast, Devendra Gupta, arrested by Rajasthan ATS in 2010, told investigators that it was Aseemanand and Joshi who roped him into the blast conspiracy. Gupta had arranged for the SIM cards used in the blasts.

It was during this time that Aseemanand came up with the "bomb for bomb" theory and a series of attacks were planned by Joshi with support from Aseemanand, sources said. NIA claims to have evidence against Aseemanand in Ajmer Dargah, Mecca Masjid and Samjhauta Express blasts but says his links to the 2006 and 2008 Malegaon blasts have not been found.

"There is no evidence to link him to either of the two Malegaon blasts. He was very close to Joshi who saw him as an ideological guru and hence shared his plans with him. Sandeep Dange and Ramji Kalsangra, who planned Malegaon 2008, did not share Joshi's enthusiasm about Aseemanand," said the officer. Sources said Aseemanand was influenced by Joshi's commitment and work and helped him financially as well as with logistics.

Maharashtra ATS had arrested and charged nine Muslim men in connection with the 2006 Malegaon blasts. However, after Aseemanand's confession, NIA arrested and chargesheeted four Hindutva fundamentalists associated with Joshi in the case.

Meanwhile, sources said a chargesheet in the Joshi murder case would be filed as soon as the agency gets forensic analysis report on the gun recovered in the case. NIA has failed to file a chargesheet in the case in the stipulated time making the accused eligible for bail.

Jaipur, Jan 26: Rajasthan on Saturday on Saturday became the third state in the country to pass a resolution urging the Centre to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

he resolution was passed in the state Assembly amid opposition by the BJP which accused the ruling Congress of pursuing appeasement politics.

It is the second Congress-ruled state to pass such a resolution after Punjab. The Kerala Assembly too had passed such a resolution against the CAA moved jointly by the ruling Left Front alliance and the opposition Congress-led UDF.

The Rajasthan Assembly resolution, passed by voice vote, also asked the Centre to withdraw the new fields of information that have been sought for updation of the National Population Register (NPR) 2020.

"It is evident that the CAA violates the provisions of the Constitution. Therefore, the House resolves to urge upon the government of India to repeal the CAA to avoid any discrimination on the basis of religion in granting citizenship and to ensure equality before law for all religious groups of India," the state's parliamentary affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal said, moving the resolution.

Leader of the opposition Gulab Chand Kataria of the BJP questioned the state's right to challenge the Act.

"Granting citizenship is a matter for the Centre. In such a situation do we have the right to challenge the CAA? The Congress should stop doing appeasement and vote bank politics," he said.

Salute to Rajasthan Govt for rejecting communal and black CAA bill.   This bill is agaisnt the teach of our Constitution and bjp has never done anything as per our constitutin.   Its trying its best to scrap the constitution and restore it with RSS agenda.    We should oppose any move by bjp against the value of constitution.   As bjp has no respect to our constitution, it has no right to be in power.    Many of bjp leaders are giving statemetns against the value of constitution and such leaders should be treated as anti indians and action be taken on them.

Lucknow, Feb 16: Resident doctors at the AMU's Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital on Sunday demanded that the charges slapped against Dr Kafeel Khan under the National Security Act be withdrawn.

Dr Khan was arrested by the UP Special Task Force from Mumbai on January 29 in connection with a speech he had delivered during an anti-CAA protest at Aligarh Muslim University on December 12.

The Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) held a protest march on the hospital campus against the slapping of the NSA against the Gorakhpur doctor after he was granted bail in connection with the alleged hate speech.

RDA president Dr Hamza Malik said the move was a "blatant attempt to crush dissent and a violation of the Constitution of india".

He said by targeting the doctor, the UP government had done a great disservice to the entire medical community.

The AMU Students' Coordination Committee also described the decision to charge Dr Kafeel under the NSA a "direct assault" on a member of the medical fraternity who is "known for his upright behaviour and a champion of free speech".

Committee spokesperson and former AMU Students' Union president Faizul Hasan said by charging Dr Kafeel under the NSA even after he got bail was "a direct violation of a Supreme Court ruling on such issues".

Hasan said Dr Kafeel's fate should serve as an eye-opener for the rest of the country regarding the democratic rights in Uttar Pradesh.

The doctor was earlier arrested for his alleged role in the death of over 60 children within an week at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur in August 2017. Short supply of oxygen at the children's ward was blamed at that time for the deaths.

About two years later, a state government probe cleared Khan of all major charges, prompting him to seek an apology from the Yogi Adityanath government.
