Mystery shrouds Togadia’s Ayodhya entry

Ayodhya, Aug 26: Even as Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Praveen Togadia was arrested here on Sunday for defying prohibitory orders against the 84 Kosi Parikrama, his appearance from a temple remained a mystery in view of the tight security arrangements by the State government.

Speculation is rife that he might have entered the town days before the administration sealed the borders of Faizabad district to stop the yatra.

However, sources said that Mr. Togadia breached the security and entered the temple town late on Saturday night.

VHP spokesman Sharad Sharma admitted that “Togadiaji arrived in Ayodhya on Saturday night in a vehicle.”

Asked how Mr. Togadia breached the heavy security cordon, Mr. Sharma said, “It is still a mystery. He entered Ayodhya just like senior VHP leaders entered the town in 1992.”

Faizabad range DIG B.D Paulson also conceded that Mr. Togadia entered the town late on Saturday night.

Sunday morning saw the administration and VHP leaders play cat and mouse with each other. Security personnel raided various locations suspected to be the hideouts of VHP leaders on the ghats of the Saryu.

However, before Mr. Togadia’s arrest, senior officials and journalists scurried from one place to another in search of him. Moments before he was held, Mr. Togadia appeared in a Hindi news channel interview from what appeared to be inside a temple in Ayodhya.

Surrounded by supporters and seers, amid chants of “Jai Sriram,” Mr. Togadia courted arrest at the Golaghat area after emerging from a temple.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 30: The Kerala chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has said that the state government's decision to sell alcohol to those with a prescription from doctors for having withdrawal symptoms is not a scientific one.

"Scientific treatment should be given to those who have alcohol withdrawal symptoms. It can be treated at home or in hospitals with medicines. It is not scientifically acceptable to offer alcohol to such people instead," a statement by IMA said.
The IMA said that they have taken the matter up with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The association said that the doctors have no legal obligation to provide a prescription for alcohol.

"Writing a liquor prescription can result in the cancellation of the right to treatment. We have brought it to the notice of Chief Minister," it added.

IMA state president Dr Abraham Varghese and state secretary Dr Gopi Kumar said that scientific treatments are good for those with withdrawal symptoms and added that if other methods are adopted it will only complicate matters.

Kerala government had earlier said that it was considering the option of online sale of liquor in the state to those with a prescription from doctors.

The decision had come in the backdrop of a country-wide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Mar 2: Two more positive cases of the novel coronavirus -- one in Delhi and another in Telangana -were reported, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday.

The person from Delhi had travelled to Italy, it said adding he is being diagnosed at RML hospital.

The other person with the coronavirus infection has a travel history to Dubai, the ministry added.

"Both the patients are stable and being closely monitored," the ministry said.

Sunitha Krishnan is the name of the patient from Telangana and she is a social activist.

Krishnan has tweeted, "So going to enjoy hospitality at Gandhi Hospital for two days as admitted in the isolation ward suspected coronavirus. They have not started the tests yet( 1.30 hrs since I arrived).I believe the results make take 48hrs. At this pace, I have a feeling I am might be here sometime."

Mumbai, Jan 18: Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray on Friday said shops, restaurants, malls and pubs will remain open 24 hours on an experimental basis in a few areas of Mumbai from January 26.

The areas where these establishments will remain open all night are Fort and Kala Ghoda in south Mumbai and Bandra Kurla Complex in the west.

Thackeray had batted for all-night-open eateries and other establishments in the city during the earlier BJP-Shiv Sena regime too.
