My fight is against system, I want to destroy it, says Yasin Bhatkal

Yasin_BhatkalPatna, Aug 30: A few hours before he was flown from Patna to New Delhi in a special Border Security Force (BSF) flight on Friday, the co-founder of Indian Mujahideen (IM) Yasin Bhatkal told his interrogators that his fight was against the system and therefore he had taken the extreme step to bomb and destroy set-ups.

“Hamein iss system se pareshani hai. Iss liye purey system ko bigadna chahte hain. (My problem is with this system, and that’s why I want to destroy it),” said Bhatkal while confessing about his involvement in about 40 blasts in different states in the last seven years.

Bhatkal, who was brought to Patna on Thursday at midnight, amid tight security, was kept on Bihar Military Police-5 (BMP) campus, where the state police and the sleuths of

National Investigation Agency (NIA) quizzed him on Friday morning about his role in

several bomb explosions and his modus operandi.

Bhatkal, who spoke fluently in English and Hindi, told the police that he posed as an Unani doctor at Birganj in Nepal (where he had his hideout). And when he would visit India, he would tell the Indian cops that he was an engineer working on irrigation projects in Nepal.

When the NIA team, led by one of its brightest IPS officers Vikas Vaibhav, asked him why he carried out series of blasts and killed hundreds of innocent people, he showed no sign of remorse.

Without batting an eyelid, he said, “Yeh toh hota rehta hai. Isme nayi baat kya hai (These things keep on happening. What’s new about it)?”

He, however, showed repentance over the killing of innocent children in the blasts.

The IM co-founder, in the meantime, denied his involvement in the Bodh Gaya serial blast case this July. Since there was no case pending against him here in the state, Bihar did not seek his remand. Eventually, he was flown to New Delhi on Friday morning since the NIA had procured a non-bailable warrant against him and the Motihari Chief Judicial Magistrate, SP Shukla, had allowed his three-day transit remand.

Ahmedabad, Mar 24: The Gujarat police has detained 426 people in the last 24 hours for violating lockdown rules in force in the state to combat the novel coronavirus outbreak, a senior official said on Tuesday.

They include those who came out despite being advised home quarantine, state Director General of Police Shivanand Jha said.

"The lockdown met with around 90 per cent success. We are taking strict measures to implement the lockdown in the remaining 10-15 per cent areas. We have lodged 238 cases related to the violation of police notification and 127 cases related to quarantine rule violation. In all, we have detained 426 persons across the state," Jha told reporters in Gandhinagar.

"For better implementation of the lockdown and to address issues concerning people, we have set up a dedicated 24-hour control room and appointed two additional DGP rank officers to supervise operations. Three teams under them would work to resolve issues across the state," said Jha.

He said police commissioners and districts SPs have been asked to enforce the lockdown in an effective manner.

Essential services like vegetable and milk shops are allowed to remain open, he said, and asked people not to flock in large numbers to such shops.

The state has so far reported 33 COVID-19 cases, and one person has died of the infection.

New Delhi, Feb 10: After an hour-long standoff between the security forces and the students on Monday, the police resorted to a lathi-charge on the protesters near Holy Family hospital which is within walking distance of Jamia Millia Islamia.

A scuffle ensued when police confronted the protesters who tried to push forward towards Parliament. The lathi-charge was made to push back the protesters.

In the melee that ensued, many from both sides fainted.

Some security forces personnel resorted to the lathi-charge while others pushed back the protesters when they threw water pouches at the security forces and abused them.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 31: In Kerala, the prisoners will now work as employees in petrol pumps and take home a salary, as the Kerala government has rolled out Petrol Pumps from jail premises in association with Indian Oil Corporation.

Speaking to news agency, Rishiraj Singh, Jail DGP said that initiative to employ jail inmates in petrol pumps was taken as in Kerala there are many projects of which prisoners are a part of and are being employed.

"In petrol pumps, 15 jail inmates will be employed at each pump. The outlets of Thiruvananthapuram, Viyyur and Cheemeni jails have been started to function from today. 

Many express doubt whether the prisoners will try to escape. But my experience working with them prove otherwise. They are managing five cafeterias in the state and selling food prepared by them. We pay them Rs 220 per day for their work and the jail inmates are running it successfully particularly at COVID-19 times," he said.

The Indian Oil Corporation is investing around Rs 9.5 crore to set up four petrol pumps at the jail premises. The share of the jail department is Rs 30 lakh for setting up petroleum outlet. Other than the three presently, it will also be started in Kannur jail.

"The land has been leased to the Indian Oil Corporation for 30 years. The prisoners are employed here and for that, they underwent a training in petrol pump of IOC and the uniform will also be supplied by them, " said Rishiraj Singh About 25 cents in Thiruvananthapuram, 39 cents in Kannur, 25 cents in Viyur and 25 cents in Cheemeni open jail have been allotted.

Through this, the government will get Rs 5.9 lakh per month in rent. 

It also plans to expand the project in the future by setting up a CNG and electrical charging station. 

The petrol pumps will be also accompanied by public comfort stations.
