Cong leadership has always made sacrifices for country: Tewari

TewariChandigarh, Oct 24: With Rahul Gandhi accusing BJP of instigating politics of anger and hate for political gains, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Wednesday night said the Congress Vice-President had spoken the truth.

“Entire Congress leadership has always made sacrifices for the country’s unity and integrity… Congress leaders and workers have been fighting the divisive forces and the forcs of terror and the anti-India forces,” the Ludhiana MP said on the sidelines of a function organised by the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana.

Earlier in the day Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of instigating politics of anger and hatred for political gains and went emotional to say that one day he too may be killed like his grandmother and father but he is not “bothered”.

“What Rahul Gandhi has said is the truth. If you look at the history of the BJP, from Mahatma Gandhi’s killing to massacre that took place in Gujarat, people connected with such ideology have remained involved,” he alleged.

“Even many ministers of the Gujarat government are behind the bars on massacre charges (Gujarat riots),” he said.

Tewari went on to say that it is a fact that Congress and its entire leadership have sacrificed their lives to protect the unity and integrity of this country.

He attacked the fundamentalist ideology, in particular RSS’ ideology, saying it is unfortunate to say they have played an important role to “divide and spread hatred in this country.”

Asked about the increased infiltration this year in Jammu and Kashmir, Tewari said, “as far as LoC is concerned, our forces are alert. You have seen in Keran sector how intruders were dealt with.

“There is an attempt by those connected with terror outfits to send infiltrators into India. But earlier too such nefarious designs have been foiled and this time too these will be foiled,” he said.

The Union Minister said that Pakistan and its rulers should seriously think over the policies it has adopted since three decades, now they themselves are facing the consequences.

“Today, in Pakistan, incidents of terror are common and innocents are killed. The main reason is because of the policies Pakistan’s rulers have adopted (over the years). There is a saying ‘when you sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind’.”

Asked if India needs to take a harsh step, he said, “I think we have been taking very firm measures for the last three decades. The fact is that all attempts which have been made by non-state actors supported by the Pakistani establishment to infiltrate into India in any manner to create chaos and disturbances have been foiled.”

“The Government of India was successful in taking up the matter with regard to Pakistan being the epicentre of terrorism and a large number of Pakistani entities including the Jamut-ul-Dawa were labelled as terrorist organisations.

Similarly, we also have been fairly successful in convincing global opinion that the non-state actors who have the support of Pakistani establishment need to be dealt with global cooperation,” he added.

New Delhi, Feb 12: Unidentified people opened fire at the convoy of the newly elected Aam Aadmi Party legislator Naresh Yadav in Southwest Delhi when he and his supporters were returning home after visiting a temple after his victory, killing a party volunteer, police and a senior AAP leader said.

The firing incident happened in Kishangarh village late Tuesday night.

Police said they have detained a person for questioning and the incident appears to be a case of personal enmity. Sources said seven rounds were fired at the MLA's convoy.

Another person injured in the incident has been admitted to a hospital.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh identified the dead party volunteer as Ashok Mann.

“Convoy of MLA Naresh Yadav attacked in Mehrauli, Ashok Mann killed. Naresh Yadav was returning home after visiting a temple,” Singh said in a tweet in Hindi.

“At least one volunteer has passed away due to bullet wounds. Another is injured,” AAP tweeted.

Ankit Lal, AAP's social media in-charge, added that miscreants in another car opened fire on the MLA's convoy near Fortis Hospital.

Mumbai, Jan 7: People protesting against the JNU violence were evicted from Gateway of India here on Tuesday morning as roads were getting blocked and tourists and common people were facing problems, a police official said.

Police had appealed to the protesters to shift but they didn't listen, so they were "relocated" to Azad Maidan, the official said.

Hundreds of people, including students, women and senior citizens - who assembled at the iconic Gateway of India since Sunday midnight - demanded action against the culprits and called for Union Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation.

Violence broke out in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi on Sunday night as masked men armed with sticks and rods attacked students and teachers and damaged property on the campus.

Jammu, Jan 25: People in Jammu and Kashmir expressed happiness over the restoration of mobile data services and internet access through fixed-line across the Union Territory on Saturday.

Speaking to ANI Jitendra Sharma, a resident of Jammu said, "The government has taken a good decision. People had been facing hardship for a long period and I think it will improve further."

"It is a big relief to people. People can finish their pending work. I hope that 4G services will also be resumed soon," said a resident of Kashmir.

The internet speed is restricted to 2G only.

"Access shall be limited only to whitelisted sites and not to any social media applications allowing peer to peer communication and virtual private network applications. Directions shall be effective from January 25 and will remain in force till January 31," the statement by the government read.

Earlier on January 15, 2G services were reinstated in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur for white-listed sites.

The Central government had suspended the internet in the region following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5 last year, which conferred special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and its bifurcation into two Union Territories -- Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir.
