‘Aarogyave Sampathu’ - MASA Medical Camp 2012

Al Khobar, January 31: The year 2012 started off on a healthy note as members trooped into MASA Medical Camp. As the wintry cold wind blew across Half Moon Beach venue, an impressive list of eight doctors ably assisted by nurses tended to attendees throughout the morning.

Dr. Prabhakar Mallya, Dr. Mohammed Ismael Shaikh, Dr. Muneeb Yasir, Dr. Abraham Kallumannil, Dr. Zubair Shaikh, Dr. Abhijit Varghese, Dr. Srinivas Kumar and Dr. Aarthi G Shetty were the main medical personnel attending the camp.

They were supported by a team of nurses including Olga Mendonca, Josephine Dsouza, Bharathi Shetty, Sumitra Pradeep Kumar, Sulochana Salian, Jascintha Jerome Almeida and Nancy Vijay Charlet.

Diabetic Educator: Marylou Samaniego – Head, assisted by Staff nurses Mary Jane Pechardo and Janice Pokling, spread the awareness on tackling this cumbersome disease.

Vice President Santosh Shetty thanked all the doctors and nurses for their valuable contribution in conducting MASA medical camp and honored them with presenting a bouquet.

In recognition of continuous committed services towards MASA medical camps, a memento was presented to Dr. Prabhakar Mallya by Madhav Amin and Mr. Dayanand Shriyan.

Special thanks extended to Mr. Jagajeevanram Karkera, Mr. Chandrasekar and Mr. Sudhir Rai for organizing the presence of Doctors.

Anticipating an exciting afternoon, several competitions were organized.

Quizzing two teams, humorously titled as Masala Dosa & Idli Sambhar, Jeopardy session proved to be a magnetic draw for fierce competive sprit to its participants. Onlookers looked in wonderment as the teams jostled for the winning edge.

Sound system technically monitored by Mr. Odwel effected communication channel for better listening during the competitions. At the end of day, he had energetic dancers stomping the room with rhythmic steps to chartbusting songs. Watching the scenes, photographer Mr. Dhanaraj captured the lighter moments for MASA memorable records. Keeping transportation services in top gear, Mr. Shiva, Mr. Keshav, Mr. Anand and Mr. Muneer were ever ready in action. Chefs at Garnish Restaurant rigged up a selection of mouth watering eatables for breakfast, lunch and high tea.

Vote of thanks was given by General Secretary Mr. Viraj Shetty. Winners of the events were invited on stage and congratulated by Naveen Bhandary, Mr. Ahmed Gulam Beary and Lancy D’Souza. The evening sunrays closed on an eventful day, fittingly sponsored by generous members.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Markaz Al Madeena Association, Eastern province, conducted JALS-E-UCHILA get together program at Dammam, Saudi Arabia on March 5,2020 on account of celebrating 28 years of social service dedicated by the organization.

The event chairman Noushad Uchil inaugurated the function. The organization president presided the program and delivered talk about the intention of the organization. Hashim Uchil has intorduced the social and academic contribution of the organization of past 28 years. Jamal Uchil welcomed the gathering and Ismail G.I. host the program.

Games, Quiz and prize distribution to the winners and senior social workers was the special attraction of the event. The planning committee of the event includes Iqbal, Farooq, Shahul Hameed, Ramza, Nabeel, Afthar, Ashraf and Shafi.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.
