Kuwait City, February 13: ‘Tulu Siri’ the first ever Tulu teaching class in Kuwait was inaugurated amidst great enthusiasm and excitement. Tulu Siri has been received with great pride, in the Tulu Speaking Community. The excitement of the children, who came along with their parents to enroll themselves, was a treat to watch.

The word Siri means sprouts in Tulu language and as the word goes the main purpose of the association is to instill Tulu speaking knowledge in our sprouts, in our children, so as to pass on our cultural heritage to them. The committee members have worked very hard towards achieving their objective of promoting Tulu language and culture. The in-charge of the Class is TharendraShettigar and the teacher is Shalini Vijay assisted by Jaya V Karkal, Suresh Salian, Vanitha Dias and Mable Rosario.

The event held at the Indian Public School was hosted very efficiently by Suresh Salian. Baby Aishwarya K Bhat and IshanBhat beautifully welcomed the audience with a Welcome prayer. The Chief Guests for the event were Smt Usha Shetty, the principal and owner of the Salmiya Play School and Sister Lenitta Lobo, from Carmel School, Kuwait. The chief Guests along with the Class Teachers Shalini Vijay and Jaya V Karkal started the event with the lighting of the lamp.

Usha Shetty, in her speech said that Tulu is a very sweet language and it gives us great sense of satisfaction and bonding to speak to our children in our mother tongue. She also felt proud to be inaugurating the Tulu teaching classes.

Sister Lenitta Lobo, spoke great words of inspiration. She said that it is our duty to let our children learn Tulu, as it is only Tulu language that unites all people of Tulu Nadu under one umbrella irrespective of our religion. She said that she felt great pride to be talking on the inaugural day and urged people to let this beautiful language build a bridge between us and not allow it to build a wall. She asked us to unite for one religion and that is the religion of Love.

Tulu Koota Kuwait Advisors, Sudhakar Shetty, Vivek Rao and Satishchandra Shetty also spoke great words of encouragement. They believed that the Committee Members have indeed shown great initiative to carry forward our motto of “Unity through language”.

Ramesh Kidiyoor, the President of the Association, elated with the beginning of the unique Tulu Classes and appreciated the effort of Committee members who worked for this. He thanked the parents for their interest and urged them to show continuous support in this noble venture. Tharendra Shettigar, the Vice President of the Association, in his speech exhibited faith that this sprout will one day nurture into a big tree.

The logo, designed by Manoj Kumar depicts the SIRI and the book with TULU SIRI written giving out rays of knowledge. The Banner was printed by Adrian Pais and attractively decorated for the inauguration by Ronald D’Souza and Jaya V Karkal. White House Restaurant served a sumptous breakfast for the invitees and children. Tulu Koota Kuwait also distributed inaugural gift bags to the children.
