Seven Star Cricket Club emerges champion of JF-FedEX Super Cup Cricket

Riyadh, March 8: The Seven Star Cricket Club emerged as the champion of JF-FedEX Super Cup Cricket organized by the local unit of Jam’iyyatul Falah under the sponsorship of FedEX/SMSA in Riyadh recently.

Eastern Arabia and Wenz Exhibition were other sponsors supported the event. As many as 16 teams participated in the tournament.


Mohammed Burhan Khan, Director Finance, FedEx and Abdul Basheer Jokatte, Finance Controller, NCMS were chief guests at the prize distribution ceremony.

In the final match, Eagle C C won the toss and preferred to bat. But the slow start and regular fall of wickets restricted the Eagle C C to 107 in allotted 12 overs. Ashfaq (49) was the only main scorer from the Eagle side. Shabeer of Seven Star Cricket Club took three wickets while Hyder and Sanjeeva shared two wickets.

In reply Seven Star lost their best batsmen Riyaz in the first over. However, a good partnership between Shafi and Shabeer (37 runs) and Shabeer and Naveed (28) consolidated the run chase of Seven Star. It was left to Arshad and Hyder to score the winning runs without losing any the wicket.

Shafi (14), Shabeer (23), Naveed (24), Arshad (17*), Hyder (15*) were the main scorer from the winning team. Seven Star won the Final in the 10th over. Shabbeer was declared the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Dubai, May 20: Dubai-based Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club’s humanitarian services in charge Naseer Karaje team have appreciated the efforts of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Mangaluru Airport director, NGOs of Mangaluru, and MLA for extending a royal welcome to second batch of repatriates from Dubai that landed at Mangaluru Airport on May 18.

There was so much of confusions when 1st batch of repatriation flight landed in Mangaluru airport on 12th May due to lack of proper arrangements and co ordination.

This time due to proper arrangements and special supervision by the DC everything was driven smoothly. It has given a confidence to all the Manglurean expats of Dubai in returning to their native places, the KSCC said.

Doha: Selvam aged 46 son of Subramanian hailing from Panakulam Village, Alangudi, Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu province who worked as a technician, died in Qatar on April 24.

Due to challenging situation prevailing in both India & Qatar for body repatriation services, especially in Covid-19 atmosphere, Family is unable to progress further for past 2 months. At his stage Family of the deceased met Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Pudukkottai office bearers and requested to intervene and help out, and also agreed to bury the body in Qatar itself.

Hence, SDPI delegates communicated with well-known Indian Expatriate welfare Organization - Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF). QISF General Secretary Basheer Ahamed, Secretary Abdullatheef Madikeri and team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation within a short period of time and arranged for a peaceful burial of Mr. Selvam in Dukhan cemetery.
