UAE Amchigele Samaj conducts Talents’ Day 2012

Dubai, May 16: The UAE Amchigele Samaj, an organization of GSB Konkani-speaking people based in UAE, organized its annual talents day programme on recently the Gems Millennium School-Auditorium, Dubai.

The Secretary of the Samaj, Mrs. Pragati Shenoy, started the day's proceedings by giving a brief history and purpose of holding the event. The Samaj President Mr. Rajiv Kamat welcomed the audience. He informed the audience of the upcoming events of the Samaj and also urged the Samaj Bandhavas to wholeheartedly support the activities of the Samaj.

There were a record number of 144 entries for the various competitions that were held under four categories viz. Sub Junior, Junior, Senior and Adult.

The competitions held were:

*Best out of waste - a fancy dress competition for Sub Juniors

* Dancing (Boys & Girls) for Juniors

* Karaoke for Senior (Teenagers)

* Creative Craft for Juniors

* Rangoli for Adults (Female)

* Extempore Speaking in Konkani for teenagers. This was a surprise element at the event as it was announced on the same day and entries were taken without specifying the details of the competition.

* Karaoke for adults (Male & Female)

*Fataa Poster Nikla Hero - Amchi Hero- for adults (Male)

The judges for the various competitions were Mrs. Suman Bhat, Mrs. Surekha Kamath, Mrs. Aruna Kamath, Mr. Nigel Soans, Mrs. Shruthi Kamath, Mrs. Sneha Prabhu, Ms. Monica Valdar, Mr. Harish Pai, Mrs. Sadhana Mallya, Mrs. Nirmala Kamath, Mrs. Vidya Rao, Mrs. Chandrika Kini, Mrs. Savita Kamath, Mrs. Radhika Pai and Mr. Narasimha Kudva.

Most of the competitions were anchored by children, while a few events were anchored by adults. The child anchors were Kriti Kamath, Stuti Kamath, Unnati Nayak, Ritika Nayak, Nikhil Pai, Sadhana Bovikan, Aditi Keertani, Riya Shenoy, Meghna Bhat and Hamsika Shanbhag. Their performances were one of the highlights of the day wherein they entertained the crowd with their fluent vocabulary and one liners. Their efforts were also applauded by the audience in a whole hearted manner. The Adults who anchored some of the competitions were Mrs. Rekha Nayak, Mrs. Anuradha Kamath and Mrs. Veena Pai. They entertained the audience with their witty remarks infused with humor.

The 400-strong audience enjoyed the performances by the children who showed great confidence in coming up on stage and performing without any trace of stage fear. Breakfast, Lunch and Evening Snacks were served during the daylong event.

The Samaj's Vice-President Mr. Shailesh Shenoy proposed the vote of thanks. The Judges & the Anchors were felicitated first & then the Prizes were distributed to the winners of the Competitions.

Dr. Janardhan Shenoy from Abu Dhabi, who would be turning 60 years of age, was also felicitated by the committee for his enthusiasm and continuous participation in the various competitions of the Samaj year after year. He has proved that age is never a bar for having a competitive spirit in a person also set an example for people that it is participation that matters and not winning or losing. As a mark of respect all the members in the Auditorium stood up and gave him a standing ovation.

It was a day filled with fun and entertainment for all people who attended. Audience were glued to their seats during all the performances cheering all the Participants throughout.

All the participants of the Sub Junior fancy dress competition were awarded medals as a token of Appreciation for their participation. In the Junior Dance-Girls category, due to an overwhelming response and tough competition, a Consolation Prize was announced, which was bagged by Ms. Vindhya Pai.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Riyadh: On the occasion of 71st Republic Day of India, Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) conducted BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN on the 17th Jan 2020 at KING SAUD Universities King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh. 

This is one of KWARs Prestigious Humanitarian EVENT every year, as we are indebted to serve the society for a Great Cause.

The campaign began at 08:30 am with a theme of Republic Day Celebrations and went on till 3:30 pm. Irrespective of Friday being a weekend and holiday people came in good numbers to donate Blood. The Hospital Staff, The Doctors and the Blood Bank Technicians and others at King Khalid University Hospital were more than happy to serve all those who have participated in this campaign.

KWAR Thanks all the Hospital Staff especially Mr. Salman Baqsh for his introduction of KWAR to Blood Bank and all the arrangements for this campaign, without his support this could not been done. Dr. Zafar Mahmoud for his wonderful support during the campaign and Mr. Abdullah Al Saman for his outstanding Hospitality throughout the campaign. KWAR also thanks all the donors who came all the way voluntarily for this Great Humanitarian Cause. As a token of gesture KWAR awarded Certificate of Appreciation to all the participants.

And KWAR would like to thank specially Mr. Nasir, Representative of Blood Helpline Karnataka, who encouraged many donors and made them to actively participate and donate blood for this noble cause.

KWAR’s core activities was on display on the screen, with most of the Committee members were present at the venue to serve the donors. KWAR thanks all the members, the Executive committee and all those who took their valuable time to organize this event successfully and thank all our well-wishers who supported us for the BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN. We in KWAR wish every Donor and the participants a healthy life ahead, and we need everyone's active participation in all our Future events.

Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.
