Alfred Vaz takes charge as president of the Dubai Chapter of Kanara Entrepreneurs

Dubai, November 19: Entrepreneur Alfred Vaz has taken charge the new president of the Dubai Chapter of Kanara Entrepreneurs (DCKE) from the outgoing president Shobha Mendonca.

 

DCKE was started in Dubai in 2005 to promote entrepreneurship among individuals hailing from the Kanara region. With chapters in Dubai and Bangalore, it has currently has over 250 members and with collaborations with similar like-minded organizations such as Rachana in Mangalore, Dimensions and CCCI in Mumbai has built a network of around 1000 entrepreneurs and professionals from the Kanara region.

With Kanara Entrepreneurs also being associated with TiE, the largest network of entrepreneurs in the world with over 15,000 members, it provides a huge opportunity for its members to network with others – sharing and learning from each other’s experiences and building and expanding their businesses beyond boundaries that they once had not thought of.

 

Three new directors were also unanimously appointed during the KEL meeting on 13th October 2013.  Albert Rodrigues took over as Director – Events.  Daniel Fernandes and Julian Lewis have graciously accepted to continue as Director Finance and Director Membership respectively for another term.

 

“As an organization, our foremost aim is for all our members to gain valuable insight into the world of business entrepreneurship from our experienced Lead Members” said Alfred as he took on the role of the President of KEL.

 

“These Lead Members who are the pillars of this organization, voluntarily contribute both their time and expertise for the benefit of all its members thus guiding it in the intended direction.”  KE has a well-documented constitution with some directors retiring in odd years while the rest in even years to ensure that there is smooth functioning of the organization.

 

It also ensures that no individual can continue in one position for more than two terms thereby providing opportunity for everyone to lead and bring their thoughts and ideas into this organization.

 

Alfred is an Entrepreneur for the past 15 years.  He is the Managing Partner of Jifco Trading L.L.C. who handle high end interiors.  They are also in event carpet business.

 

Daniel is the Managing Director of Dafnia Communications – a technology company specialising in networking, ably supported by his wife Dorothy.

 

Julian has been in the business of building materials for the last 21 years in Dubai and Qatar and manages Peninsula General Trading LLC.

 

Albert Rodrigues is in Dubai for the past 34 years, initial 24 years worked for Multinational Insurance Company, evolved as an entrepreneur owning and managing Millennium Insurance Brokers co., LLC and Crystal Administrative and Risk Solutions LLC.

 

The other Directors in the KEL team include James Mendonca who is in charge of Mentoring and Frank Fernandes who is in Charge of Marketing and Sponsorship.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter organized a "Live along with COVID-19" webinar on 29 May 2020 in association with HealthCare Polyclinic, Dammam.

The webinar at Zoom App. featured over 150+ resident Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia's eastern and neighboring provinces.

Dr. Shailendranath made a presentation on the program and gave useful information. Indian Social Forum Dammam, Karnataka Chapter President Sharif Joktake delivered the keynote address. General Secretary Irshad Jokatte stalled the program.

Kuwait: Friday Forum Kuwait conducted its 12th inter-school Islamic Elocution Competition at Hotel Rajadhani Palace, Khaitan on 1st January 2020. 

The competition, which was held in the senior and junior categories had participation from 15 Indian Schools across Kuwait comprising of 43 students. In the senior category, Ayisha Wafiya of Indian Community School, Khaitan bagged the first prize and Efrem Joseph of Indian Community School, Amman won the second prize. 

In the junior category, Hima Jameela of Indian Community School, Khaitan bagged the first prize and Fadhel Kandapath of Fahaheel Al Wataniya Indian School won the second prize. Nawaal Yaseen Ebrahim of Indian Community School (SR), Salmiya and Rhruthunanda of Indian Learners Own Academy, Abbasiya won the consolation prizes in senior and junior categories respectively.

This year, the event was fully conducted by the ladies wing of Friday Forum. Dr. Thasneem Amir, Ibtisam Basheer, Toast Masters Ola Rasheed, Fatma Abduhedeid, Shazia Thabassum and Marium Rangat were the judges for the competition in senior and junior categories. The event started with the Qira’at by Saneera Riyas, followed by welcome speech by Dr. Sajna Mohammed. 

The prizes were distributed to winners by Shahina Mansoor, Femitha Faseeh, Dr.Thasneem Amir, Dr. Sajna Mohammed, Zeenath Yacoub, Safna Sayam and Saneera Riyas. The Souvenir for the program - “INSPERIA 2020”- was released during the event by the chief editor Farha Abdul Rahman. The program was compered by Thanveera Noushad and the program convenor Subeana Shabeer conveyed the vote of thanks.

Doha: Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF) once again set an example that no caste, creed, language and religion comes as hurdle for their humanitarian services and helped to perform last rites of Ramesh who committed suicide in Doha-Qatar.

45-year-old Ramesh son of K. Nagan hailing from Panikulam, Thrissur district in Kerala, who was working as a tailor committed suicide in his house at Ruwias in Qatar on 30th May 2020.

On hearing this news, some of his friends in Kearla informed Mr. Shihab who is also from Thrissur and a member of QISF and the same was brought to the notice of QISF humanitarian team head Mr. Abdul Latheef Madikeri and Basheer Ahmed of Tamil Nadu.

Immediately, the QISF team intervened and contacted the family members of the deceased in India and discussed the matter and consequences of sending the body back home to India in this pandemic COVID 19 situation.

Considering the prevailing situation, the family members gave the consent to bury the body in Qatar itself.

QISF team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation.

Finally, the body of the deceased was buried in Qatar on 7th June 2020 and the copies of all the relevant documents have been handed over to the family members.

The family members of the deceased thanked and applauded the leaders and all the members of QISF for their effective and on time humanitarian service rendered even in this pandemic crisis and having no bias.
