Safare Mohommad excels in Toastmasters’ speech competition

Al-Jubail, Feb 18: Toastmasters’ International (area 63, division E, District 79), Al-Jubail conducted a host of competitions as a part of its annual speech competitions. The competitions were held in four main catagories, viz- evaluation, humour speech, table topic and international speech.

Surprisingly one name outdid everyone else thereby emerging as winner in all the categories. Safare Mohommad who competed in all categories beat his contenders to bag himself first place in all the competitions.

In evaluation contest Safare Mohammed was followed by Asif Siddique and Meshari Al Barghouthi. In Humorous speech competition Asif Siddique was the first runner up and Sulaiman Al Teheni was the second runner up. In Table Topic Meshari Al-Barghouti was the first runner up while Asif Siddique settled at the third place.

In International speech competition Bader Al-Telmesani stood second and Asif Siddique stood third.

The competitions were conducted on Friday, February 15 at Al Jude Village. The event was presided over by Area Governor TM Shameer Ahmed, who said that the competitions of this kind help participants sharpen their oratory skills.

Division ‘E’ Governor TM Abdulla Al Shareef, guest of honor TM Nawaf Al Anazi, General Manager – GAS company a Sabic affiliate, DTM R.J. George, Lecturer, Jubail Technical College and others were the guests of honour. Banner Parade of all the clubs under Area 63 was conducted. The presidents of Global, Bechtel, Royal Commission, GAS and Jubail industrial college held the banners with Area 63 Governor.

The winners of the competition will be eligible to take part in the district level competitions.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Dammam: President of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Mr.Wasim Rabbani urged immediate intervention of Indian government to help Non Residential Indians who are in trouble due to corona pandemic in Saudi Arabia.

He said in a press rease that expatriate Indians are in concern  as number of corona infected people and  deaths are increasing in danger level.

Hea said, "the Saudi health minister's statement a few days ago indicates that the situation in Saudi needs to be taken more seriously with precautionary methods. There are concerns among expatriates because the number of people infected with the coronavirus and the number of deaths reported in various provinces are increasing at an alarming rate."

"Saudi Government and Health Ministry are taking excellent precautionary measures, however, in the coming days expect to see the number of cases to increase in Saudi Arabia. The Indian government needs to take diplomatic and immediate intervention to ensure the treatment of Indian expatriates considering the number of effected people increasing", He said.

He also urged that the Embassy and the Government of India should ensure qaurantiane faculty for Indian expatriates and arrange special low cost flights to bring back expatriates who would like to return home country.

" Government of India and Indian embassy need to intervene immediately to ensure that the quarantine system is in place for Indian expatriates as the facilities in the rooms where the residents are staying together are very limited. There should also be a mechanism to organize low-cost flight services for expatriates who are ready to go home. The government system should also be able to accommodate the expatriates in special quarantine areas in hometown as soon they arrive in India", he urged.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.
