John Peter Fernandes elected as MUKA chief

Nottingham, Apr 16: Mangalorean United Konkani Association (MUKA) elected Mr. John Peter Fernandes as its President for the year 2013-2015, at the General Body Meeting held at Bramcote Memorial Hall, Nottingham.

Outgoing President Stany Sequeira thanked all the members for their support and assistance during his term and requested the members to work hard with same zeal towards the community and also promised his support to the new President.

Deepak Alvares, General Secretary read out report on past activities and achievements of the association and various programmes conducted during the year.

Mr Jeevan Menezes conducted the day’s proceedings. Taking over the role of the President, Mr John Fernandes thanked Mr Stany Sequeira for leading the association successfully, and assured of his full support to fulfill his responsibilities. He assured them that he would strive hard to build unity and to continue the good work. He thanked the outgoing committee for their relentless hard work and wished the new committee a good and fruitful year ahead.

A discussion was held with regards to organising the programmes for the current year and it was decided to hold Annual Summer Day Out event on Saturday August 10, 2013. The meeting concluded with a hymn.

It was unanimously decided to have the new executive committee in the office for 2 years. The new Executive committee elected for the year 2013-2015 and the office bearers are:

President: Mr. John Peter Fernandes

Vice-President: Mrs. Nympha Alvares

Secretary: Mr. Deepak Alvares

Treasurer: Mr. Stany Sequeira

Cultural Secretary: Mr. Jeevan Menezes

Communication Coordinator: Mr. Vincent D’Souza

Liturgical Secretary: Mr. Pius Rasquinha

Additional Committee Members: Mr. Prakash Mendonca, Mrs. Joyce Aranha, Mrs. Lydia Lewis and Mr. Julian Noronha.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter distributed Food Kits for Indian expatriates labors who were in trouble due to Corona lockdown on April 6, 2020 at a labor camp here in Al Khobar.

The labors, most of them are from the staes of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh And Uttar Pradesh, were in trouble without food.

 Recieving the information leaders of Indian Social Forum immediately visited the camp to take survey.

Indian Social Forum with the help of donors distributed food kits. Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka Chapter president Mr.Mohammed Shareef Jokatte expressed gratitude for donors for their contribution.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter organized a "Live along with COVID-19" webinar on 29 May 2020 in association with HealthCare Polyclinic, Dammam.

The webinar at Zoom App. featured over 150+ resident Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia's eastern and neighboring provinces.

Dr. Shailendranath made a presentation on the program and gave useful information. Indian Social Forum Dammam, Karnataka Chapter President Sharif Joktake delivered the keynote address. General Secretary Irshad Jokatte stalled the program.
