Dubai: Devadigas lift Nama Tuluveru Friendly Community Cricket trophy

Dubai, Apr 21: Nama Tuluveru UAE's 'Friendly Community Cricket 2013', a spectacular event professionally organised for the first time with 12 Mangalorean community teams was successfully held on Friday, April 19 at Al Jaber Grounds, Dubai on two grounds simultaneously from 7 am to 7 pm.

It was a gloomy weather with lot of breeze, cool for all the teams to start with a few drops of rain keeping the ground set for the teams to play good cricket. All the enthusiastic teams arrived in time as fixed in the fixtures and the match started as scheduled except for the Mogaveers team who got a walkover for not arriving on time.

Shodhan Prasad of Nama Tuluveru opened the day with a welcome speech and a prayer. He then introduced his team consisting of Sudhakar Alva who was the main person managing the whole event, Purushottam Salian and Prabhakar Suvarna, the jury and qualified umpires Althaf Khalife, Sudhir Suvarna and Toufiq assisted by Sudhakar Alva and Imran.

The final was a tie between Devadiga Sangha team and Nirel Film team in an interesting game of tough fight, every ball throughout the 8 overs. Nirel team batted first scoring 78 runs with top score of 26 by Pritam while Devadiga team chased with 78 runs with top score of 36 by Sunil. As per the rules set, in case of a tie, the runs scored in first two overs decide the match. Nirel team scored 6 in first two overs while Devadiga team scored 20 in the first two overs, hence they were declared winners.

The tournament started with Reliable Fabricators team v/s Mangalore Challengers where Mangalore Challengers won by 9 wickets. The second match was between Nama Tuluveru team and UAE Bunts where UAE Bunts won by one run. Then was Padmashaali team v/s Nirel team wherein Nirel team won by 7 runs. It continued with the below:

In the semi final between Nama Tuluveru v/s Devadigas, Nama Tuluveru topped the table on run rate but lost to Devadigas by 27 runs. In the semi final between Nirel and Ganigas, Nirel won by 3 runs. Hence Devadigas and Nirel came to the final fight.

Best batsman title was won by Krishna Prasad of UAE Bunts for scoring 82 runs in league matches. Best Bowler was Sunil of Devadigas who took 6 wickets in the matches. Man of the series went to Dheeraj of Devadigas who scored a highest of 68 runs and took 6 wickets.

Before the prize distribution ceremony there was a raffle draw and thanksgiving wherein the organisers thanked Younis of Saheban UAE for sponsoring the trophies and medals of the tournament, Chilly Willy Trading for supporting the event with energy drinks for all the players, Divesh Alva and Skehar Shetty of Woodside Restaurant for distributing free lunch for all the players and also for keeping the food stall open throughout the tournament with snacks and drinks, Noel Almeida for arranging beautiful tent and chairs, Purushottam Salian for arranging generator and sound, Shubhakar for arranging mementos for all the teams, team managers and supporters, Imran for the ground, Ajmal for the score keeping and Navin and Deepak S P who kept the tournament lively with their beautiful commentaries filled with humour.

The winner and runners-up trophies were presented by Younis of Saheban UAE while Man of the Series, Best Batsman, Best Bowler trophies were presented by Divesh Alva, Shekar Shetty and Sudhakar Alva. Felicitation to umpires was done by Purushottam Salian, Prabhakar Suvarna and Deepak S P.

The professionally organised event was witnessed by a large number of Kannadigas who came with families, friends and celebrities from Nirel movie who came to cheer up the teams.

Dammam: President of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Mr.Wasim Rabbani urged immediate intervention of Indian government to help Non Residential Indians who are in trouble due to corona pandemic in Saudi Arabia.

He said in a press rease that expatriate Indians are in concern  as number of corona infected people and  deaths are increasing in danger level.

Hea said, "the Saudi health minister's statement a few days ago indicates that the situation in Saudi needs to be taken more seriously with precautionary methods. There are concerns among expatriates because the number of people infected with the coronavirus and the number of deaths reported in various provinces are increasing at an alarming rate."

"Saudi Government and Health Ministry are taking excellent precautionary measures, however, in the coming days expect to see the number of cases to increase in Saudi Arabia. The Indian government needs to take diplomatic and immediate intervention to ensure the treatment of Indian expatriates considering the number of effected people increasing", He said.

He also urged that the Embassy and the Government of India should ensure qaurantiane faculty for Indian expatriates and arrange special low cost flights to bring back expatriates who would like to return home country.

" Government of India and Indian embassy need to intervene immediately to ensure that the quarantine system is in place for Indian expatriates as the facilities in the rooms where the residents are staying together are very limited. There should also be a mechanism to organize low-cost flight services for expatriates who are ready to go home. The government system should also be able to accommodate the expatriates in special quarantine areas in hometown as soon they arrive in India", he urged.

The Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC), Bahrain, has charted aircrafts to repatriate stranded expatriates to India. 

Boby Parayil, General Secretary, OICC National Committee, Bahrain has thanked all those who supported in this cause.

“The aircrafts were not licensed and were in crisis until the last minute. Finally, Mohammed Mansoor, president of Bahrain chapter of Indian Overseas Congress approached IOC Middle East in charge Dr Arathi Krishna, who helped get permission to operate flight to Kozhikode,” he said in a release. 

All mandatory approvals from the Foreign Ministry of Affairs and other government officials were accomplished by Dr Arathi Krishna. OICC has expressed gratitude to her for her timely support, he said. 

OICC is also grateful to former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy for doing necessary arrangements to get all the approvals for flight landing in Kerala, he added.

Dubai: A non-profitable social organization, KSCC is delivering a great service to the community during this pandemic situation.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club is a civil organization registered under Community Development Authority (CDA) involved in implementing various UAE government initiatives, blood donation drives, health campaigns, sport events, charity works, awareness programs and much more.

KSCC is currently actively liaising with Dubai government authorities in discharging the needs and requirements of the people in these challenging covid-19 pandemic times. It is also involved the activities such as logistics, coordinating stores, mobilizing isolation centers, equipping quarantine facilities and volunteering services.

During these testing times, KSCC is also facilitating the Guidance to the general public, follow-up up to 122 covid positive cases, counselling the affected, assisting the references and providing the ever-necessary emotional support by setting up a team of 24 reserved persons for call center helplines.

As per the request from DHA (Dubai Health Authority) KSCC has successfully organized the blood donation drive and donated upto 141 units of blood with the help of KSCC members & supporters.

Apart from above, KSCC is also engaged in serving needy by distributing the food provisional kit (Yestahloon) from the very 1st day of lockdown till day by their special task force team under guidelines of CDA, and also taking into consideration the month of Ramadan, team is successfully distributing Iftar food & provision kit with the help of donors.

In the 1st Phase, KSCC covered 2421 beneficiaries by providing 440 provisional food kits, 435 food pack and 529 Iftar kits.

As per the CDA guidelines, club is also engaged in following up the health condition of senior citizens living in UAE.

KSCC special team is also engaged in clearing documentation and formalities related to dead body repatriation until its final procedures and handing over to relatives with help of UAE governments authorities. Total 5 dead bodies are repatriated in their 1st phase of service.

KSCC is also having a center controlled special task team to assist all above activities during the covid-19 pandemic to continue the services to general public.

KSCC thanks all Government authorities, Members in different task team, supporters and Sponsors company MAERSK, MALABAR GOLD & DIAMOND and TAMIL ENTREPRENEUR for their support and also request extend their support to consolidate the above demanding service and deliver our best possible assistance not only because it is the month of Ramadan, but also our responsibility to reach out to the poor and needy, during this fight against Covid-19.
