Indian youth brigade of Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina took center stage on a day when another failure with the bat for Sachin Tendulkar hogged the media limelight. Kohli, who came into bat at No.5 compiled a patient and gritty 93 runs and stitched a vital 99-run partnership with the under-pressure Raina who went all guns blazing in his knock of 55 runs.

Kohli was unbeaten on 93 (174) along with captain MS Dhoni (46) when stumps were drawn with India on 283/5. India are trailing New Zealand by 82 runs.

Tim Southee scalped three Indian wickets giving away 35 runs in 15 overs. Bracewell also picked up two crucial wickets but was a tad expensive going for an economy of over 4 rpo.

Earlier, Raina had scored a breezy half-century (55) to silence his critics. Opener Gautam Gambhir failed to impress again as he went for 2 runs whereas Sehwag scored 43 runs before getting out to Bracewell right after lunch. Sachin Tendulkar got a peach of a delivery from Bracewell as the ‘Master Blaster’ departed for just 17 runs. Apparently, Sunil Gavaskar reckoned on air while commenting that age is getting the better of SRT.

India had a good start at Bangalore on Day 2 as the bowlers lead by Pragyan Ojha bundled out the Kiwis in under 10 overs on Day 2 for 365 runs in their first innings. Ojha finished with 5/99 ably supported by Zaheer Khan 2/83. For New Zealand, Keeper Kruger van Wyk scored 71 runs.

In reply, Indian openers struggled as new ball bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult bowled well in tandem utilising the pace and bounce and the overcast conditions well. Gambhir’s (2) poor run in the series continued as he shouldered arms to an in-coming delivery to see his bails rattled after he was dropped in the slip cordon early on.

Sehwag had early jitters but went about playing his shot taking the odd risk. Cheteshwar Pujara was bounced out by a well directed bouncer by Tim Southee for nine runs. Sehwag got few cheeky boundaries through the slip cordon as Sachin Tendulkar bide his time in the middle early in his innings.

In the second over after lunch, Sehwag perished owing to an excellent catch held by Daniel Flynn at short mid-wicket. Sehwag went for a flick closing the face of the bat a tad too early as the ball flew towards short mid-wicket where Flynn took an excellent diving catch. Southee and Bracewell kept the pressure on the Indians maintaining a good line and length. Two overs after Sehwag departed, Sachin played a trademark cover drive but the very next ball he was castled by Bracewell for 17.

Kohli and Raina then joined forces as Ross Taylor decided to go for spin in the form of Jeetan Patel. Short ball suspect Raina was tested by Southee and Bracewell but he came out all guns blazing hitting three consecutive fours of Bracewell. He went on to score at a brisk pace and at one stage he had a strike rate of over 100.

Kohli also joined the party taking on Jeetan Patel hoisting the spinner for a massive six over long-on. After Raina’s departure for 55, captain MS Dhoni (46*) took over the charge and stitched together an unbeaten 104-run partnership with in-form Kohli.

New Delhi, Aug 6: The BCCI on Thursday suspended the IPL title sponsorship deal with Chinese mobile phone company Vivo for the event's upcoming edition amid heightened tensions in Sino-India diplomatic ties.

The BCCI sent out a one-line statement, without giving details, saying that Vivo would not be associated with the IPL this year. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and vivo Mobile India Pvt Ltd have decided to suspend their partnership for Indian Premier League in 2020," the statement said.

Meanwhile, Vivo released its own statement saying that the two entities "have mutually decided to pause their partnership for the 2020 season".

Vivo won the IPL title sponsorship rights for five years from 2018 to 2022 for a reported sum of Rs 2,190 crore, approximately Rs 440 crore per annum.

The two parties are now working out a plan in which Vivo might come back for a fresh three-year period starting 2021 on revised terms.

However, a top BCCI official offered a different view. "Here we are talking about diplomatic tensions and you expect that after November, when IPL ends and before the next IPL starts in April 2021, there would be no anti-China sentiment? Are we serious?" a veteran BCCI official said on conditions of anonymity.

The anti-China sentiment in the country peaked after the violent face-off between the Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh. India lost 20 soldiers in the clash, while China also acknowledged unspecified casualties.

The stand-off at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) caused outrage across India with several calls for boycotts of Chinese companies and products.

The BCCI is now likely to float a tender for new IPL title sponsors as mandated by its constitution. The glitzy T20 league starts on Sept. 19 in the UAE, forced out of India due to the rising COVID-19 cases.

The new development is in stark contrast to what came out of Sunday's IPL's Governing Council meeting, where it was decided that Vivo, along with all the other sponsors, will remain on board.

This was after the BCCI had announced in June that all sponsorship deals pertaining to IPL will be reviewed in the aftermath of the clash in the Galwan Valley.

However, after Sunday's meeting, there was a huge backlash on social media about the BCCI holding on to Vivo.

Both parties then began thrashing out an amicable separation plan, at least for this season.

However, the end of this deal could spell losses for the franchises as they get a substantial share from the sponsorship pool. Half of the annual Vivo sponsorship money is distributed equally among eight franchises, which comes to Rs 27.5 crore.

"As of now, it will be very difficult for the BCCI to match the sponsorship amount at such short notice. Therefore, both BCCI and the franchises should be prepared to lose out on some money -- BCCI more but each franchise from Vivo's exit will potentially lose 15 crore," the official said.

"This year will be difficult for everyone but the show must go on," the official said.

Los Angeles, Feb 14: Tributes to the late Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers legend who died last month in a helicopter crash, will play a major role in Sunday's 69th NBA All-Star Game.

This year's annual showcase of league talent will be played in Chicago and feature numerous nods to Bryant, a five-time NBA champion who also matched a league record with four NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player awards.

Bryant, an 18-time NBA All-Star, died at age 41 on January 26 in a crash near Los Angeles that also took the life of his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others.

All-Star teams guided by LeBron James of the Lakers and Greek star Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks will compete to win each of the first three quarters, which will all start 0-0 and last 12 minutes.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the clock will be turned off and a final target score will be established by taking the leading club's cumulative score through the first three quarters and adding 24 points -- the number representing the jersey number worn by Bryant for the final 10 seasons of his NBA career.

The first team to reach the cumulative target score will win the NBA All-Star Game.

All-Star Game jerseys will also honor Bryant and his daughter.

Team Giannis players will wear jersey number 24 in tribute to Kobe while Team LeBron players will wear jersey number two, the number his daughter wore when playing youth basketball.

Both teams will wear jersey patches displaying nine stars, representing the nine people who were killed in the crash.

Academy Award-winning actress and Grammy Award-winning singer Jennifer Hudson, a Chicago native, will perform a special tribute to Bryant, his daughter and the others who were killed in the crash. Her performance will begin the night ahead of the player introductions.

James and Antetokounmpo each chose their squads from available starters and reserves voted and selected to the All-Star contest.

Team LeBron starters will include James, his Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, NBA scoring leader James Harden of Houston, Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers and Slovenian guard Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks.

Team Giannis starters include the Greek big man, Cameroon stars Joel Embiid of Philadelphia and Pascal Siakam of Toronto and guards Kemba Walker of Boston and Trae Young of Atlanta.

A record eight All-Star Game players from outside the United States also include Frenchman Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz on Team Giannis and Team LeBron reserves Ben Simmons of Australia and the Philadelphia 76ers, Lithuanian Domantas Sabonis of Indiana and Serbian Nikola Jokic of Denver.

"The second and third ODI between India and South Africa in Lucknow and Kolkata respectively are called off," the BCCI source told media persons.

The first match of the series was abandoned due to rain and wet outfield without a toss at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium on Thursday.

The second and third ODI was scheduled to be played at Lucknow and Kolkata on March 15 and 18 respectively. Earlier on Thursday, the BCCI has decided to play the remaining two ODIs behind closed doors.

"After holding discussions with the MYAS and MOHFW, the BCCI on Thursday announced that the remaining two One-day Internationals (ODIs) of the three-match series of South Africa tour of India, 2020, will be played without any public gathering, including spectators," the BCCI had said in a statement.

The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry has advised all the federations to avoid large gatherings.

World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday had declared the coronavirus outbreak a 'pandemic' and expressed deep concerns.

The coronavirus disease was first detected in Wuhan in China's Hubei province, in late December, and has since spread worldwide.
