New Delhi, October 9: In his capacity as Rajya Sabha member, Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has prepared a roadmap for Indian sports, which he submitted to Union human resource development minister Kapil Sibal and sports minister Ajay Maken last month.

According to sources, the batting maestro has given a two-page summary and attached a 25-slide presentation to show the road ahead for Indian sports.

In the presentation, Tendulkar essentially made four main points - how to tap into the grassroots level and nurture young talent, how to promote sports at university and college levels and make it more competitive, how to revamp infrastructure and improve the structure of excellence and how physical activities should be compulsory for every Indian.

Sources said that Tendulkar has taken inspiration from India's strong showing in the 2012 London Olympics - and explained how the country's best medal tally could be used as a great opportunity to further develop India as a sporting nation.

Four-Point Agenda:

1. Tap into grassroots and nurture young talent

2. Promote sports at university and college levels

3. Revamp sporting infrastructure

4. Make physical activity part of school curriculum

'Sibal inclined towards Sachin's proposal'

To realize the dream of 'sports for all', Sachin Tendulkar has suggested that sports should be made part of the school curriculum.

"He has suggested that instead of sports being treated as an extra-curricular activity, it should be made compulsory," a source told TOI.

HRD ministry sources said the minister is favourably inclined to Sachin's proposal but the modalities will have to be worked out by NCERT.

The sources added that Kapil Sibal had written to Tendulkar immediately after receiving the document sent by him and invited him to make a presentation. The ministry is awaiting Tendulkar's response.

"This a positive move by Tendulkar, who is playing the perfect role of a Parliamentarian and a sportsman," the source said.

Times View:

Sachin Tendulkar's proposal that sports should be made compulsory in school deserves to be taken seriously and not just because of who it comes from.

There should be no doubt that the inculcation of a sporting culture in our children early in life will serve both them and the country well.

Not only would it help arrest the decline in physical activity in today's children, it will provide good means of teaching them the values of team effort and strategising, both of which are of immense value in anywalk of life.

At a more tangible level, a nation of over a billion people can only gain from the sheer volume of talent that is likely to be thrown up if sports gets truly broad-based as such a move would do.

New Delhi, Jun 24: Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has slammed UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for not allowing recreational cricket to resume.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had described the cricket ball as a 'natural vector of disease' and ruled out recreational cricket's return in the country.

Hearing Johnson's argument, Vaughan tweeted: "Hand sanitiser in every players pocket. Use every time you touch the ball ... SIMPLE ... Recreational Cricket should just play from July 4th ... utter nonsense it's not being allowed back ... #Cricket."

Johnson was responding to a question from Conservative MP Greg Clark in the House of Commons, and it was then that Johnson said that it is too soon to lift current restrictions to allow the return of recreational cricket.

"The problem with cricket as everybody understands is that the ball is a natural vector of disease, potentially at any rate. We've been around it many times with our scientific friends," ESPNCricinfo had quoted Johnson as saying.

"At the moment, we're still working on ways to make cricket more COVID-secure but we can't change the guidance yet," he added.

Johnson had announced various relaxations on Tuesday, but the return of recreational cricket was not a part of them.

However, this statement given by Johnson will have no impact on the Test series between England and West Indies, scheduled to begin from July 8.

However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has said that it is looking to resume recreational cricket in the country around July 4.

The board has also said that cricket is a low-risk sport as it is a non-contact sport.

"We believe that cricket is a non-contact sport, with very low risks of exposure, and that it can be played as safely as many other activities being currently permitted," the ECB said in an official statement.

"It is our strong desire to work with Government to see the return of recreational cricket on or around 4th July, as they continue to lift other restrictions more broadly across society," it added.

All international cricket has also been suspended since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, it is set to resume to from July 8 as England and West Indies will lock horns in the three-Test series.

Pogba took to Instagram to write: "During the past few days I have thought a lot about how to express my feelings about what happened in Minneapolis. I felt anger, pity, hatred, indignation, pain, sadness."

"Sadness for George and for all black people who suffer from racism Every day! Whether in football, at work, at school, Anywhere! This has to stop, once and for all! Not tomorrow or the next day, it has to end today! Violent acts of racism can no longer be tolerated," he added.

Protests erupted in Minneapolis and other US cities on Tuesday after Floyd, an African-American man, died following his arrest by the four officers.

A viral video showed a police officer, Derek Chauvin, pinning 46-year-old Floyd to the ground with his knee on his neck for nearly eight minutes. Floyd died at a local hospital shortly thereafter.

The four police officers were fired. Chauvin was also charged with murder and manslaughter, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
