Initial probe finds no link of Vijender Singh with drug dealers: Police

March 8, 2013

Chandigarh, Mar 8: Initial probe into the recovery of 26 kg of heroin worth Rs 130 crore from an NRI's house in Zirakpur has not suggested any link with boxer Vijender Singh, whose car was recovered at some distance from the accused's house, police said.

"We just recovered Vijender's car at some distance from the arrested NRI's house and there is nothing much after the initial probe to tell," Fathegarh Sahib SSP Hardyal Singh Mann said.

"In the initial probe there has been nothing to tell. Besides, it appears there is no link of the boxer with the person from whose house the heroin was seized," he said, adding "if needed we may call Vijender for questioning. But at present there is nothing in connection with Vijender."

Anoop Singh Khalon, an NRI, and Kulwinder Singh were arrested a few days back by Punjab police and during interrogation they revealed that they had supplied small quantity of the drug to both the boxers.

SSP (Fatehgarh Sahib) Hardyal Singh Mann said a car, which was registered in the name of Archna, wife of boxer Vijender Singh, was found parked outside Khalon's house in Zirakpur.

A case under section 21/61/85 NDPS Act and 420,467,468, 471 of IPC along with 25/54/59 of Arms Act has been registered at Fatehgarh Sahib police station.

Accused Khalon and Kulwinder would be produced in a local court of Fathegarh Sahib later today.

As per the SSP, the NRI, along with his family, has been living in Canada since 1995. As per the police, he was a truck driver and later developed ties with drug mafia in the European countries and the US.

Meanwhile, Vijender Singh has denied having any links with Anup Singh Khalon and said that his name was being misused in the case.

"I am shocked. I am in Mumbai right now for work. My friends dropped me at the airport in my wife's car. I don't know how it reached outside that Zirakpur flat," Vijender, an Asian Games gold-medallist, said.

"My friends could have used that car after dropping me but I don't understand how can my name be dragged into this. The police has already clarified that nothing was recovered from the car. And they have not even contacted me," he said.

New Delhi, April 4: India skipper Virat Kohli has said that the 2014 Test series against England was the lowest point of his career.

He made the revelation during a candid Instagram Live session with former England batsman Kevin Pietersen.

To date, the 2014 Test series in England remains one of the worst Test series for Kohli as he averaged just 13.40 from 10 ten innings with his highest score being 39.

"I felt like as a batsman, you know you are going to get out in the morning as soon as you wake up. That was the time I felt like that there is no chance I am getting runs. And still to get out of bed and just get dressed for the game and to go out there and go through that, knowing that you will fail, was something that ate me up," Kohli told Pietersen.

However, just four years later, Kohli made a triumphant return to England as he scored a century in the opening Test of the 2018 series and finished as the highest run-getter in the series.

Kohli told Pietersen that the performance in 2014 came because he was just thinking about his own batting.

"2014 series happened, for all the younger guys listening, because I was too focused on doing well from a personal point of view. I wanted to get runs. I could never think of what does the team want me to do in this situation," Kohli said.

"I just got too engulfed with England tour - if I perform here, Test cricket, in my mind I am going to feel established and all that crap on the outside, which is not important at all," he added.
During the chat, Kohli talked about his favourite format in cricket and he also revealed the main reason for turning into a vegan.

Indore, Jan 8: Former opener Gautam Gambhir is mighty impressed with the way K.L. Rahul batted during India's comfortable seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second T20I and said it amazes him why the right-handed batsman can't play the same way in Tests. On Tuesday, Rahul top-scored with a 32-ball 45 as India chased down the meagre target of 143 with utmost ease at the Holkar Stadium.

"Rahul is in unbelievable form. It amazes me every time I see Rahul bat that why didn't he play the same way in Test cricket," Gambhir told the host broadcasters. "It's not about only white-ball cricket; it is about Test cricket too. He just got into a shell too much. With the kind of quality he posses, he is someone who can get you a 50-ball 100 in Test cricket as well. The kind of shots he has is superb," he added.

Shikhar Dhawan, who is making a return to the team after an injury lay-off, also contributed with a "rusty" 30-ball 32. Both Dhawan and Rahul are virtually playing for the second opener's slot for the World T20, with Rohit Sharma set to be one.

And Gambhir feels going by the current form, Rahul should be opening the batting alongside Rohit in Australia. "You can't compare IPL to international cricket. When you're playing for Delhi Capitals, you know there's no one waiting for the opportunity, but when you're playing for the country and you know there's someone who's actually can replace you, there'll always be pressure. And today it was shown who's in better form," Gambhir said.

The cricketer-turned-politician, however, exuded confidence that Dhawan will bounce back strongly in the next game. "Shikhar Dhawan looked rusty but it's a good thing that he got some runs under his belt. It will help him when he walks out to bat in the next game. Had he got out early, the pressure would have been more," he said.

India will play Sri Lanka in the final T20I in Pune on Friday before taking on Australia in a three-match ODI series beginning January 14 in Mumbai.
