Super_KingsChennai, Apr 14: Royal Challengers Bangalore relived their worst nightmare as Chennai Super Kings pulled off yet another stunning victory from the jaws of defeat under the most dramatic circumstances at the MA Chidambaram stadium here on a pleasant Saturday night.

Playing in front of a packed stadium, Chennai were struggling to scale down RCB’s 165 at several stages of the match but in the end a combined effort from their batsmen helped them notch their second win on the trot, this time off the final ball.

After Suresh Raina (30), Subramaniam Badrinath (34) and skipper MS Dhoni (33) had contributed in good measure, CSK required 16 runs to win off the final over. Ravindra Jadeja (38, 20b, 3x4, 1x6) edged a four and smacked a six off Rudra Pratap Singh in the first two balls to take the equation to six to win from four balls.

The left-arm pacer did well to bring it down to two to win off the final ball and when Jadeja edged the ball straight down the throat of Ravi Rampaul at third man it seemed like RCB had won.

But what RCB players hadn’t noticed amidst all the commotion was that umpire Anil Chowdhary had signalled a no-ball, handing CSK a four-wicket win.

Slow start

Earlier, Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal opened for RCB, and the West Indian left-hander started off slowly, seeing off the first five balls, and his four off the final delivery off Dirk Nannes, easing some nerves.

The burly left-hander looked to take on Chris Morris in the second over and the South African, spotting Gayle move to his left, bowled wide and the edge carried to Dhoni’s outstretched hands.

At six for one, Kohli walked in and forged a solid partnership with Mayank. The duo managed to keep the run-rate going by finding a boundary in almost every over and added 51 runs for the second wicket before the Mayank (24, 21b, 2x4, 1x6) fell to a brilliant ploy from Ashwin and Dhoni.

Fiery batting

Upon sighting Mayank step down the track, Ashwin fired a ball down the leg-side. Premeditating the line of the delivery, Dhoni slid to his left, collected the ball and whipped off the bails in a flash as Mayank looked on in disbelief.

But the arrival of AB?de Villiers (64, 32b, 8x4, 1x6) only added further momentum to RCB?innings, and Kohli was once again in his elements as they carted Super Kings bowlers to all areas of the park.

They added 82 in 49 balls to take RCB to a point (133/3 in 16.4 overs) from where they could accelerate further but the loss of Kohli in the 17th over to Morris dented their hopes. De Villiers, however, stood up to the test and was the primary reason behind RCB, reaching a good total even as the South African failed to find a solid partner towards the end.

Chasing a competitive total, Chennai got off to the worst start possible. For a mere ten runs – which took them four overs to get -- the hosts lost their opening pair of Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay to a clinical R Vinay Kumar and Ravi Rampaul respectively.

Following which, there was a period of stability in Raina and Badrinath as the duo joined hands and carried CSK to 64 for two in 10 overs – the same score RCB had achieved at that stage in their innings. Even as RCB’s bowlers and their fielders continued to shine under lights, CSK had too much firepower on the day as history repeated itself at the Chepauk.

Home ground advantage gives RR upper hand against KXIP

Jaipur, Apr 14: There is something about the Pink City that brings out the best in Rajasthan Royal s. Even in the worst of times, they have invariably raised their game here.

This year too, they have started with a bang at home, beating defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders. The result of their last match may not have gone their way, but Royals are always a different unit at home. They will be the clear favourites against Kings XI Punjab, who are coming after a no-show against Chennai Super Kings, on Sunday.

The Royals have struck all the right notes this season and with the next two encounters at home - they play Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, they have every chance to put some valuable points on board. Shane Watson and Shaun Tait did not play in the losing cause against Pune. But even without these two key players, Royals looked comfortable on the field. And that is where the Royals' strength lies.

They have strengthened their squad with the addition of the likes of James Faulkner, Fidel Edwards, and some domestic talents in Harmeet Singh and Rahul Shukla. Whether it is Kevon Cooper, Siddharth Trivedi, or newcomer Shukla, all have contributed to the cause. KKR had a taste of the effective Royals' bowling when they failed to get past a score of 144.

Captain Rahul Dravid has led with firm assurance. At 40, he is the top scorer for the Royals so far. Dravid will want others to bat around him. Ajinkya Rahane, Brad Hodge and Stuart Binny have done that job but he will expect more consistency from them.

For Kings XI Punjab, batting remains a big concern. They did win their opening match against Pune Warrriors, but it was because of their bowlers. They have the variety in bowling and seasoned campaigners in Ryan Harris, Azhar Mahmood and Praveen Kumar.

The batting, though, is heavily dependent on Adam Gilchrist and David Hussey. Youngsters Mandeep Singh and Manan Vohra will need to play out of their skins if they hope to put up a fight against an opponent which loves to draw its strength from the home soil.

Wellington, Feb 22: shant Sharma's lion-hearted bowling effort met its match in Kane Williamson's elegance as New Zealand ended an attritional second day of the opening Test against India with a slight upper-hand, here on Saturday.

After another lower-order collapse that saw India get bundled out for 165, Ishant, coming straight back from an ankle injury, took three for 31 in 15 overs despite Williamson's effortless 89 in New Zealand's day-end score of 216 for 5.

New Zealand now lead by 51 runs.

Mohammed Shami (1/61 in 17 overs), during his final spell of the day, removed Williamson, who couldn't check an uppish drive. Henry Nicholls' (17 off 62 balls) struggle seemed to have hampered Williamson's rhythm.

During the final hour, Ravichandran Ashwin (1/60 in 21 overs), who also bowled beautifully throughout the day, relieved Nicholls' of his agony with a delivery that had drift and a hint of turn as India skipper Virat Kohli snapped the low catch at second slip.

Williamson looked good as he hit some delightful strokes square off the wicket. The square drive on the rise off Jasprit Bumrah (0/62 in 18.1 overs), followed by a cover drive, showed his class.

In all, the New Zealand skipper hit 11 boundaries off 153 balls.

Bumrah, in particular, was punished by Williamson, who also back-cut him for a boundary and Taylor then punished another half volley through the covers.

There were quite a few loose deliveries on offer from the Indian pacers and in between a few did beat the bat. With the 'Basin' baked in sunshine, batting became lot more easier and Black Caps seized the initiative.

Bumrah, in particular, failed to find his length consistently. Either he bowled too full and drivable length deliveries or too short that even Rishabh Pant failed to gather with the ball going a couple feet over his head.

This is where Ishant came into the picture. While he was lucky to get opener Tom Latham out with a delivery drifting on leg-stump, the other opener Tom Blundell (30) had a typical Ishant dismissal written all over it.

The ball was full on the off-stump channel and jagged back enough to find the gap between his bat and pad.

Williamson and Taylor then had a partnership of 93 runs during which New Zealand also got the lead before Ishant, coming back for his third spell, bowled one that reared up from good length and proved to be an easy catch for Cheteshwar Pujara at short-leg.

Once Nicholls came in, Williamson, who was batting fluently, suddenly had a player at the opposite end who scored only 4 off 34 balls.

Looking good for his 22nd Test hundred, Williamson, in his bid to get another boundary, couldn't check a cover drive and the low catch was taken by substitute fielder Ravindra Jadeja.

Earlier, New Zealand's debutant Kyle Jamieson and veteran Tim Southee took four wickets apiece as Indian innings folded in 68.1 overs.

Jamieson (4/49 in 16 overs) and Southee (4/49 in 20.1 overs) took four of the five wickets that fell on the second morning with India adding only 43 runs to their overnight score of 122 for 5.

Rishabh Pant (19) started with a six but then a horrible mix-up with senior partner Ajinkya Rahane (46) resulted in a run-out and the little chance of recovery was gone for good.

It was a poor call from the senior player and Pant had to sacrifice his wicket in the process.

Ashwin then received a beauty from Southee, pretty similar to what Prithvi Shaw got, while Rahane inside edged one while trying to leave it alone.

With India at 132 for 7, Rahane knew that time was running out as he played a square drive off Trent Boult to get him a boundary.

Southee then got rid of Rahane when he tried to shoulder arm a delivery that made a late inward movement. Mohammed Shami's entertaining 21 then enabled the visitors to cross the 150-run mark.

New Delhi, Aug 5: "Want to know what makes him tick," said Australian pacer Kane Richardson will talking about playing alongside Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

The IPL 2020 will be played in the UAE from September 19-November 10 and the tournament will run for 53 days.

In the players' auction which was conducted in December 2019, RCB managed to bag key players like Richardson, Chris Morris, Aaron Finch, Dale Steyn, Joshua Philippe, and Isuru Udana.

In an interaction with news agency, Richardson talked about playing alongside Kohli and the learning curve which is in store for him by being in the same squad as Proteas great Dale Steyn.
"Huge. These guys (Virat, AB de Villiers) are the absolute legends of the game. Anything I can learn from them will be a bonus, that's for sure.

I am really looking forward to playing with Virat, there are few more competitive players in the world. I am really looking forward to seeing what makes him tick," Richardson said.

The 29-year-old pacer also said that he would want to learn from Steyn as to how to be consistent in all formats of the game over a long period of time.

"There are loads I can learn from Dale. He has been amongst the best at the highest level for so long. His control and ability to swing the ball without losing his pace is really impressive. 

I look forward to getting in his ear about how he performs so consistently over a long period, in all forms," said Richardson who has 39 ODI wickets to his credit.

Richardson has so far played 14 games in his IPL career so far and has picked up 18 wickets. The bowler played for Pune Warriors India in 2013, Rajasthan Royals in 2014, and RCB in 2016.

For this year's IPL, RCB has also bagged Australia's limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch, and Richardson thinks having a familiar face in the camp would help him to settle better in the franchise.

"Finchey is an awesome player and a fantastic leader. I am sure it will help to have two Aussies in the side along with Josh who is playing his first tournament after a massive summer in the BBL. We are all professionals, I'm sure it won't take long for us to gel as a side," Richardson said.

However, before the IPL starts, Australia is expected to tour England for a limited-overs series, comprising of three ODIs and as many T20Is.

The side was last seen in action in March this year as they played one ODI against New Zealand in Sydney. After the first match, the remaining two ODIs were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Talking about the series against England, Kane replied: "We will be fresh, that's one thing, while the England players have been in a bubble for some time now. As long as we get enough practice in before and possibly some centre wicket it should not be an issue."

"They are World Cup holders and the number one ranked side for a very good reason. It will be a tough series also given they will have played a fair bit of cricket together by then. We know we need to work hard on our one-day game which will be a priority over the next period," he added.

The pacer also talked about how the lockdown was like for him, and Richardson feels that everyone would come back strong as a result of this break.

"The break from playing has been refreshing, to be honest. We have come back strong and are well into pre-season training with our states. As a bowler, our loads are not at their peak but we are working towards getting ready for a tour of the UK in a few weeks," Richardson said.

The Australian quick has so far played 25 ODIs and 18 T20Is, managing to take 39 and 19 wickets respectively.

Karachi, May 18: Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan believes it is at least five years too early to compare Virat Kohli and Babar Azam as the Indian skipper has proven himself in "every kind of situation" and the latter has not.

"Virat Kohli is far more experienced than Babar. He has at least five years more experience of top cricket and he is at the peak of his career," said Younis, Pakistan's leading run-getter in Tests.

"Kohli has far more exposure than Babar and he has been in every kind of situation and proven himself. No one gets 70 international centuries like that and this are proof of his class and abilities. He has scored runs in every situation and all opposition."

Younis said said Babar still has a long way to go.

"Babar has been in top cricket for just around five years. He has got a very impressive batting average across all three formats and he is getting better by the day.

"You see him batting and you can see he has got the same qualities that Kohli had at the start of his career."

Besides amassing 70 international hundreds, 31-year-old Kohli averages more than 50 in all three formats. The India skipper has scored more than 20,000 runs while 25-year-old Babar has 6680 runs across formats though the Pakistan limited overs skipper has played significantly lesser number of games.
