Hyderabad, May 5: Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers fired in unison as they posted a comprehensive six-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League on Saturday, brightening their chances of playing in the play-offs.

After bowling out Delhi for 80 -- this season’s lowest score, Hyderabad chased down the target with 37 balls to spare to move to third on the table. The defeat has also virtually ruled out Delhi’s chances of advancing to the next stage.

Dale Steyn, Thisara Perera and Darren Sammy picked up two wickets each while there were one apiece for Ishant Sharma, Karan Sharma and Amit Mishra.

Shikhar Dhawan top-scored for the hosts with 22 while Darren Sammy remained unbeaten on 18 as the side posted its fifth win in as many games at home. Dhawan was his usual self from the word go, hitting three front-line Delhi pacers for boundaries. Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav and Ashish Nehra could hardly pose tough questions as Dhawan dominated proceedings.

The highlight of Dhawan’s cameo was the boundary off Nehra, who was driven through cover-point after the batsman made room for himself.

The flamboyant left-hander then stood tall and drove Yadav between cover and mid-off for another boundary.

However, his entertaining stay was cut short as Johan Botha had Dhawan trapped in front of the stumps with a skidy delivery that seemed to be heading down the legside.

A Ashish Reddy was off the mark in a jiffy and that too in style, punching away a short-of-a-length Nehra delivery through covers for four. But that was it as the batsman was sent back by Nehra who had him caught behind.

Parthiv Patel, after spending some time in the middle, misread a googly by Jeevan Mendis to be stumped by Kedar Jadhav for 14.

Even as the hosts ambled, skipper Kumar Sangakkara fell to Botha while going for a needless heave and could not clear long-off where Umesh Yadav completed the catch.

Hyderabad could have lost another wicket as Botha appealed for a caught behind, but

the umpire ruled in favour of Hanuma Vihari.

Sammy helped Hyderabad close in on the target with a six off Mendis over long-on, before Vihari drove Yadav to bring up the win. Earlier, a combination of some disciplined bowling from Hyderabad aided by a pathetic batting saw the hosts bowl out Delhi for a paltry total.

Opting to bat after the coin landed in skipper Mahela Jayawardene’s favour, Delhi lost wickets at regular intervals to leave the hosts with a real chance of consolidating their position in the points table.

This is also the second time in this edition that Daredevils have been dismissed for less than 100 -- the first one coming against Chennai Super Kings at the Feroz Shah Kotla last month.

The first casualty was the skipper himself, trapped in front of the wicket by Ishant Sharma after what appeared to be a watchful start to the visitors’ innings in yet another must-win game. Next to go was Virender Sehwag, whose off-stump was disturbed by Darren Sammy, who celebrated the big wicket by performing his by-now-familiar act -- sucking on a pacifier hanging around his neck.

Dhaka, Jan 23: Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who is part of the Bangladesh squad traveling to Pakistan, posted a cryptic tweet before team's departure which raised a few eyebrows.

On Wednesday evening, Rahman took to Twitter to post a selfie along with his teammates before the team's departure and asked his followers to pray for them, writing: "Heading to Pakistan. Remember us in your prayers."

Bangladesh were earlier reluctant to travel to Pakistan. However, the officials of both the teams met in Dubai and it was after many deliberations, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) agreed to send their team for a cricket series.

Bangladesh will be playing three T20Is, two Tests and an ODI in Pakistan between January and April. The T20I series will be played from January 24-27 in Lahore, followed by the first Test from February 7 to 11.

Bangladesh will then return to Pakistan in April for the one-off ODI which will be played on April 3 and the second Test from April 5-9.

Senior players like Mushfiqur Rahim decided against traveling to Pakistan citing personal reasons. After that, five members of the Bangladesh coaching staff also pulled out of the tour.

Pakistan have also recalled the experienced duo of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik, along with pacer Shaheen Afridi for the T20I series.

New Delhi, Jul 21: With the T20 World Cup's postponement clearing the decks for a full-fledged IPL, the glitzy event's Governing Council will meet in a week or 10 days' time to plan its next course of action, eyeing UAE as the host this year.

An IPL between September and early November has been made possible by the ICC's decision on Monday to postpone the T20 World Cup in Australia, scheduled for October-November, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The IPL GC will meet within a week or 10 days and all decisions (including final schedule) will be taken there. As of now, the plan is to have a full fledged IPL comprising 60 games and most likely in the UAE," Patel told PTI.

Asked about the main challenges in conducting the event in current scenario, Patel added: "Just the operational side of it. Whether you do it here or outside, it doesn't matter (with no crowds)."

The franchisees had already been working on their plans for the IPL even before the ICC announcement.

With majority of the Indian players not having access to grounds amid the pandemic, teams will need at least three to four weeks to get them match ready.

Foreign players will fly in directly to the UAE from their respective countries.

"Our players will need at least three to four weeks of training, if not more. We will finalise all our plans once the BCCI announces the dates. It looks like the IPL will be in the UAE and we are ready for that," a team owner told PTI.

Since India tour Australia for a four-Test series right after the IPL, training of the Test players is also an important issue.

Test specialists like Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari, who are not part of the IPL, are likely to train for the eagerly-awaited series in a bio-secure environment at the newly-renovated Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad during the time of the IPL.

A few fringe players are expected to join them at Motera along with the Indian team's support staff, which is free during the IPL.

Work from home has become the norm amid the pandemic, therefore, there is a possibility that IPL commentary will happen from the comfort of the living room, a safer and cost effective-option considering the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, who is 71, are involved.

The viewership is expected to be a record one with people craving for live cricket, something KXIP co-owner Ness Wadia has said.

However, it remains to be seen how much the broadcasters and teams are able to attract from the sponsors in the current financial climate.

More moot points and questions ahead of the IPL GC meeting:

1) More double headers expected (original schedule had only five double headers).

2) BCCI will need to provide a Standard Operating Procedure to IPL teams even though they will have their own SOPs in place.

3) Will the BCCI compensate teams for not being able to generate gate money this year?

4) Will there be virtual commentary from Star Sports? It was seen in the recent 3TC event in South Africa with the likes of Aakash Chopra, Deep Dasgupta and Irfan Pathan commentating from home.

New Delhi, Jun 2: Manchester United's Paul Pogba on Monday paid tribute to George Floyd, stressing that violent acts of racism can no longer be tolerated and they have to stop.

Pogba took to Instagram to write: "During the past few days I have thought a lot about how to express my feelings about what happened in Minneapolis. I felt anger, pity, hatred, indignation, pain, sadness."

"Sadness for George and for all black people who suffer from racism Every day! Whether in football, at work, at school, Anywhere! This has to stop, once and for all! Not tomorrow or the next day, it has to end today! Violent acts of racism can no longer be tolerated," he added.

Protests erupted in Minneapolis and other US cities on Tuesday after Floyd, an African-American man, died following his arrest by the four officers.

A viral video showed a police officer, Derek Chauvin, pinning 46-year-old Floyd to the ground with his knee on his neck for nearly eight minutes. Floyd died at a local hospital shortly thereafter.

The four police officers were fired. Chauvin was also charged with murder and manslaughter, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
