Night traffic ban on NH-766 to continue

Mysore, Oct 2: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday announced that ban on plying of vehicles through Bandipur forest area during the night will continue.

Speaking to media persons here, the Chief Minister stated, "I cannot go against the court order. The Court has ordered to not to allow vehicles in the night in Bandipur forest area."

The statement comes in the backdrop of rising protests against the night traffic ban on National Highway-766 which cuts through Bandipur forest area.

Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday had also met Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to discuss the issue.

Gandhi had also tweeted in solidarity with youths who were on an indefinite hunger strike since September 25 to protest against the daily 9-hour traffic ban on NH-766 stating that it had "caused immense hardship to lakhs of people in Kerala and Karnataka."

"I think Rahul Gandhi is well aware of the court's order. Ban on vehicles in the night will continue in Bandipur," Yeddyurappa added.

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday instructed that despite financial constraints don't cut scholarships of the students belonging to Backward Class (BC) across the state.

Speaking at a review meeting of the Social Welfare Department at his home office 'Krishna' here, he said the department has achieved 97 per cent in implementation of the government programmes.

He said that among the BC students who were given training for the competitive examinations, two selected for IAS, two IPS, 13 IRS and another 268 students have been selected for various competitions and selected for the jobs.

Mysuru, Jan 22: Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Wednesday urged the state government to initiate an unbiased investigation into the Mangaluru airport bomb case.

Addressing media persons here, he said, “The incident has created panic among the public and such incidents are being repeated due to the failure of intelligence agencies of the state”.

On accused Aditya Rao, the suspect in the case, who surrendered before Bengaluru police on Wednesday morning, the senior Congress leader said, “I have not yet gathered complete information about the accused in the case, therefore I would not like to comment about him.”

Mangaluru, Jan 8: Dakshina Kannada District In-Charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, on Wednesday announced that the District Administration will organise the Karavali Utsava from January 10-19 at Karavali Utsava Maidaan here in the city.

The minister was addressing a press conference on Wednesday morning at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He informed that a rally will march from Nehru Maidaan to Karavali Utsava Maidaan on January 10 to officially mark the inauguration of the utsava. 
The rally will be flagged off by Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

Beach Utsava and Kite Festival will be organised at the Panambur beach on January 17, 18 and 19 as a part of Karavali Utsava.
