Nine buses attacked after police action against Bajrang Dal miscreant

Bantwal, Jun 25: Several groups of miscreants, said to be supporters and activists of Bajrang Dal, threw stones and damaged nine buses, including a few from Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, in the limits of Vitla and Bantwal police stations of Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday morning.

It is said to be the reaction for case registered against a Bajrang Dal activist by the Kerala Police on Monday for allegedly assaulting a cattle trader and robbing cows from him in Badiyadka Police limits in Kasargod of Kerala on Sunday.

A group of persons on a few motorcycles threw stones at buses in Kudrebettu and Panemangaluru in Bantwal Police limits. Another group of persons threw stones at a few buses in Surikumeru village in Vitla Police limits. The incidents occurred between 6.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. Bus drivers and a few passengers received simple injuries and were treated in hospitals nearby, the police said.

On Sunday, the cattle transporter was assaulted and robbed by a group of persons in Perla in Kerala. Following a complaint from the victim, the Badiyadka Police on Monday registered a case against six persons, including Bajrang Dal activist Akshay Rajput, and two others from Vitla in Karnataka. The Kerala Police seized the vehicles abandoned by Rajput and the two others, who are reportedly at large.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police B.M. Laxmi Prasad said that the police had launched a search for eight persons involved in the attack.

“These are some mischievous elements trying to create unrest in the region. Teams have been formed to arrest them,” Mr. Prasad said. He asked people not to believe rumours about the incident being spread on the social media.

Bengaluru, May 12: The South Western Railway on Tuesday informed that a 'Shramik special train' has left Karnataka for Bihar carrying 1,428 migrants onboard.

The special train carrying migrants to Motihari, Bihar departed from Kabaka Puttur in Karnataka.

Passengers were observing social distancing norms during boarding.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had recently granted permission for movement of stranded citizens including migrants labourers, workers, students, tourists to return to their native towns.

As per the list provided by the Karnataka government, South Western Railway is arranging special trains. These special trains are being run from point to point with no stoppages en-route.

Thrissur, Feb 11: The latest test result of the woman medical student, who arrived here from China's Wuhan region and was the first positive case from India for the novel Coronavirus (nCoV), has come out negative, health officials said on Monday.

Her condition was "stable", they said.

According to the state health department as of now, 31 people are in isolation wards across various hospitals in the state.

"The blood test result of the first patient from Thrissur, from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) testing centre at Alappuzha, shows a negative result.

But we need confirmation from the NIV at Pune," a senior medical officer told news agency.

After the first positive case was reported from Thrissur, two other Keralite students from Wuhan, the epicentre of the virus, had tested positive in Alappuzha and Kasaragod districts.

The health department had earlier said those in isolation wards of various hospitals in the state have come down to 34.

"A total of 3,367 are under observation across the state, of which 3,336 are under home quarantine," a release issued by the health department said.

The department has already sent at least 364 samples for testing at the NIV at Pune and so far 337 results have returned negative.

The ''state calamity'' alert, which was declared on February 3, was withdrawn on Friday after no new positive cases of infection were detected.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: A total of 5,483 new COVID-19 cases and 84 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, the state's health department informed on Friday.

Karnataka now has a total of 1,24,115 coronavirus cases, including 72,005 active cases and 49,788 discharges.
So far, 2,134 deaths have been reported from the state.

Meanwhile, India reported the highest single-day spike of 55,079 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, crossing the 16-lakh mark, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Friday.
