No injustice done to North Karnataka: Deve Gowda

Hubbali, Jul 16: JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda said that the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy-led government will publish a whitepaper on the total funds allotted for each district of the state by various governments from 1956.

He added that this the government would go public with this document during the next assembly session. The whitepaper on the contribution of all governments for the development of north Karnataka will be presented with statistics.

"The whitepaper will prove who has done injustice to the northern region. Our government has not meted out any injustice to north Karnataka," he claimed.

Defending the coalition government's meager budget allotment for the development of northern districts of Karnataka (9% of total); Deve Gowda told reporters in Hubballi, on Sunday, that he would ask the CM to hold a two-day special Assembly session to discuss those issues.

The opposition and mass media have been terming the 2018 state budget a 'Vokkaliga budget'. "This is not true. Lingayats have ruled this state for 25 years. What is their contribution to north Karnataka? Crores of rupees have been allotted for north Karnataka. If you say that development is not apparent; then where did the money go? To the houses of politicians?" Gowda asked.

Rahul as PM

Gowda said he has no problem with AICC president Rahul Gandhi becoming prime minister.

"We are part of coalition and have no problem supporting the Congress at the Centre. I am in no position to lead the anti-BJP third front now."

"There is no clarity on the third front now," Gowda uttered, ruling out a pre-poll alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

"The direction and shape of third front will emerge clearly post 2019 polls," he opined.

Mangaluru, May 13: Karnataka revised its standard operating procedure (SOP) for international passengers to allow pregnant women, children and senior citizens to entre home quarantine if they test negative for covid-19.

The development comes after former minister and Mangaluru MLA U T Khader urged the government to follow the Kerala model in handling the repatriates and take extra care of pregnant women and senior citizens at Mangaluru and Bengaluru Airports.

Passengers will be initially dived into two categories. Category A includes passengers symptomatic on arrival while Category B passengers are those asymptomatic on arrival.

While category A passengers will be directly shifted to covid-19 hospital, category B passengers will be sent to 14-day institutional quarantine.

If there are pregnant women, children below 10 years of age and senior citizens in category B, they will remain in institutional quarantine until they obtain a negative report (after throat swab testing for covid-19). It may take one or two days to get the throat swab testing report.

Bengaluru, May 1: The Karnataka government on Friday issued a show cause notice to an IAS officer over his recent tweet about coronavirus-cured Tablighi Jamaat members donating plasma for treatment of other patients.

The officer, Mohammad Mohsin, was in the news last year after the Election Commission suspended him for trying to inspect Prime Minister Narendra Modi's helicopter during his visit to Odisha in April. He was deployed as a poll observer.

"More than 300 Tablighi Heroes are donating their plasma to serve the country in New Delhi only. What about? #Godi Media? They will not show the works of humanity done by these heroes," Mohsin said in a tweet on April 27.

A 1996 batch IAS officer from Karnataka cadre hailing from Bihar, Mohsin is currently serving as a secretary in the Backward Class Welfare Department.

The state government said the show cause notice has been issued to the officer in connection with his tweet.

"The adverse coverage this tweet has got in the media has been taken note of seriously by the government, given the serious nature of COVID-19 and the sensitivities involved," the notice, which was accessed by PTI, stated.

The government has sought a written explanation from the officer within five days for violating the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968.

It warned of action against Mohsin as per the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969 if he fails to submit his reply before the deadline.

"The Karnataka government has made it clear that it would not hesitate to act even against powerful functionaries if their actions are damaging to the harmony in the state at a time when all are united in fighting COVID-19," a senior state bureaucrat said.

The Tablighi Jamaat, an Islamic missionary group, shot into the limelight early this year after thousands of its members who attended a congregation in south Delhi's Nizamuddin in March tested positive for coronavirus.

After attending the event, the group's members travelled to various parts of the country, with many of them carrying the virus.
