Hyderabad, Dec 18: The lower-than-expected poll performance of the BJP in Gujarat suggests that the 2019 general elections are not going to be a cakewalk for the NDA lead party, a senior TRS leader said today.

"The key takeaway (of Gujarat Assembly elections) is it's not (going to be) a cakewalk for the BJP anymore in 2019 election," Telangana Rashtra Samiti Floor Leader in Lok Sabha, A P Jithender Reddy said.

"They (BJP) have to basically again check their administration," he said.

Though the BJP is set to return to power in the western state, Reddy saw the electoral verdict as being a setback to the party.

"Definitely (it's a setback). 103 seats (the projected BJP tally this afternoon) is not coming back to power (it should have been bigger number of seats)," he said.

On the Gujarat Assembly election results, Reddy said, "This is what I think is the demonetisation and GST effect. People have not really liked what has been done by the BJP government, and this is a ballot result they have given."

He claimed that businessmen have been "suffering" due to the introduction of GST, and said the trading community in the state has seen "very bad times in the last three months".

"So this is a reflection of that, and also anti-incumbency," Reddy added.

Meanwhile, Telangana Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his party's "victory" in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

He also appreciated the Congress party for putting up a strong fight in Gujarat Assembly elections.

"Congrats to BJP & @narendramodi Ji on retaining Gujarat & being victorious in Himachal Pradesh. Congrats INC on putting up a spirited fight. Democracy needs both a stable Government & a vibrant opposition. Let's hope Good Governance takes centre stage & politics the backseat," Rao tweeted.

The BJP workers in the state celebrated the victory of the BJP in both the states by distributing sweets.

Telangana BJP chief K Laxman said the victory in both the states is a result of faith that the people have reposed in Modi.

"People of Gujarat did not believe in the negative campaign undertook by the Congress on GST and demonetisation. People there did not forget the development that the state witnessed in BJP and Modi's rule," Laxman said.

He exuded confidence that BJP will win in Telangana in future.

New Delhi, May 29: In a powerful display of inter community solidarity, a team of Sikh volunteers visited Delhi's Jama Masjid and sanitized the 17th century monument.

As the national capital battled coronavirus, the historic Jama Masjid is closed for congregational prayers. However, the team of Sikh volunteers effectively sanitized the monument to ensure it is safe for the caretakers and visitors.

The volunteers affiliated with United Sikhs organization also met Naib Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Shaban Bukhari during the visit. The latter thanked the team for the humanitarian gesture and underlined the need for all sections of humanity to unite in the face of this crisis.

"The Sikh community has always displayed exemplary commitment to humanity and we are thankful to the United Sikhs' team for their initiative. This enormous crisis facing the human race can be fought off only if all communities, nations and people unite and fight it together. In recent weeks we have seen heart wrenching images of misery in the country as thousands of migrant workers return to their villages. At the same time we have also seen positive stories of different people uniting to help and feed them. We hope that together we will overcome this crisis," said Syed Shaban Bukhari, Naib Shahi Imam, Jama Masjid, Delhi.

Shaban Bukhari has also advised Muslims across the country to strictly avoid congregational prayers this Eid and pray at homes. He is young leader, who really believes in secularism. For him, humanity and kindness come first.

New Delhi, Jul 19: Amid the political firestorm in Rajasthan following Sachin Pilot's rebellion, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Sunday called for amending the anti-defection law to ban all defectors from holding public office for five years and fighting the next election.

Sibal also said that the "antibodies" against the "virus of corrupt means" to topple elected governments lie in amending the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution (anti-defection law).

His attack comes in the wake of Pilot's open rebellion against the Ashok Gehlot government, which has been on shaky ground since, with at least 18 legislators backing the rebel leader.

Pilot was sacked as deputy chief minister and the state Congress chief earlier this week.

The Congress has accused the BJP of making efforts to topple the Gehlot government by indulging in horse-trading.

"Need for Vaccine: Virus of 'corrupt means' to topple elected governments has spread through a 'Wuhan like facility' in Delhi," Sibal tweeted, in an apparent swipe at the BJP.

"Its 'antibodies' lie in amending the Tenth Schedule. Ban all defectors from: Holding public office for five years, fighting the next election," he said.

Taking a swipe at Pilot over his claim that he is not joining the BJP, Sibal on Thursday had asked what happens to his "ghar wapsi" and whether Rajasthan's dissident legislators are vacationing in Haryana under the "watchful eye" of the saffron party.

In the house of 200, the Congress has 107 MLAs, including the 19 dissidents who have been issued notices of disqualification by the speaker and they have challenged them in the high court.

The Congress has maintained the claim that the Gehlot government has the support of 109 MLAs, including the two BTP MLAs.
