No ministers even 18 days after BSY became CM; dismiss this govt: Congress

Bengaluru, Aug 13: Questioning the Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala's "silence" on the absence of council of ministers in the state, the Congress on Tuesday asked him to take cognisance of the matter and dismiss the BJP government led by B S Yediyurappa.

"Its been 18 days ever since Yediyurappa took over. Yet there is no council of ministers formed whereas the Constitution says the governor has to act on the aid and advise of the council of ministers," Congress spokesperson V S Ugrappa told reporters.

Yediyurappa was sworn in as the chief minister on July 26 and since then has been heading a "one-man" government without ministers.

He was in the national capital last week to hold consultations with the party's central leadership on Cabinet expansion and finalise the names.

But Yediyurappa was told by the BJP President Amit Shah to head back to the state and supervise flood relief measures and attend to the needs of the victims.

The chief minister has already indicated that a decision on Ministry expansion is likely after August 16, following his visit to Delhi to meet party's central leadership.

According to party sources, only 10 to 12 members are likely to be inducted into the Ministry in the first round.

Ugrappa said: "I want to ask the Governor Is there a government in the state as per the constitution? Governor has to take a cognisance of the matter and dismiss the government. A Chief Minister cannot be called as a council of ministers."

Underlining that there was a need to have the cabinet at a time when there were floods across various parts of Karnataka, the Congress leader said a group of ministers holding crucial portfolios would have helped in taking decisions instantly.

Since there was a "crisis" in the state following the floods and incessant rains, Ugrappa said he would wait for a few days and if the cabinet was not formed then he would take legal recourse.

He claimed that damage caused by the floods and rains was to the tune of about Rs one lakh crore and the Centre should immediately declare it a national calamity and release maximum grant.

Bengaluru, Jul 14: More than 80 Namma Metro workers have tested positive for COVID-19 in Bengaluru on Tuesday, said Yashwanth Chauhan BL, public relations officer of Namma Metro.

"All safety and treatment protocols would be followed at the camps," he added.

These workers were staying in a camp near Nagavara-Gottigere lane, reach-6 of phase two. More than 200 contract workers of Larsen and Toubro who had come from different states have been tested after a labourer complained of fever.

All coronavirus positive workers were shifted to a COVID care centre while others were kept in isolation as per the guidelines.

Bengaluru, May 16: At least 23 new COVID-19 positive cases have emerged in the past 19 hours, raising Karnataka''s tally to 1,079, a health official said on Saturday.

"New cases reported from Friday 5 p.m. to Saturday noon are 23," said the official.

Among the 1,079 cases, 548 are active and isolated in designated hospitals across the state, 494 patients got discharged and 36 died of the virus.

In the past 19 hours, cases spiked in Benglaluru Urban, the place hosting the highest number of coronavirus cases in the state.

Of the new cases, Bengaluru Urban reported 14 cases, followed by 3 in Hassan and Mandya, Ballari, Bagalkote, Davangere, Dharwad and Udupi, 1 each.

All the 14 cases, men, from Bengaluru Urban were secondary contacts of positive case 653.

All Hassan, Dharwad and Bagalkote cases had a history of inter-state travel to Mumbai, Maharashtra, India''s largest sufferer of Covid.

A 46-year-old man from Ballari had a travel history to Ahmedabad in Gujarat, another major COVID-19 hotspot state in India.

A 40-year-old man from Mandya had inter-district travel history to Kolar and Bengaluru.

A 1-year-old infant girl from Udupi had international travel history to Dubai.

Among the new cases, 15 are contacts of earlier cases.

Of the all cases, 20 are men and three women.

Only four of the 23 cases are above 50 and 18 below 40.

Of the 1,079 cases, 12 per cent patients were senior citizens, 66 per cent men and 34 per cent women with a discharge rate of 44 per cent.

Mangaluru, July 31: Coronavirus related deaths in Dakshina Kannada continued to surge, with the district administration recording five more fatalities in a day, thus taking the tally to 155.

The district has recorded multiple deaths every day from July 1 to 31. A majority of the deaths are due to comorbid conditions.

Among the five deaths reported today, a 47-year-old man from Mangaluru, was admitted to private hospital on July 30, and breathed his last on the same day. He was suffering from ARDS, Type 1 respiratory failure, COPD, Type II DM, HTN and died due to cardiac arrest.

Another patient was a 75-year-old man from Bantwal, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 23, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from acute coronary syndrome, pneumonia (ARDS), metabolic encephalopathy, acute kidney injury, systemic hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The third patient was a 63-year-old man from Mangaluru, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 18, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from ARDS, septic shock, renal failure, and secondary bacterial infection.

The fourth patient was an 88-year-old woman from Davanagere, who was admitted to a private hospital on July 9, and passed away on July 30. She was suffering from septic shock, and secondary bacterial infection.

The fifth patient was a 75-year-old man from Mangaluru. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 15, and passed away on July 30. He was suffering from refractory ARDS, septic shock, renal failure, acute coronary event, arrhythmias, pulmonary thromboembolism, and hemoperitoneum.

The district administration said that though the above patients contracted coronavirus, the exact cause of their deaths is being investigated by a team of experts and their report is awaited.

On the other hand, Dakshina Kannada district recorded a total of 204 fresh cases, taking the tally to 5,713. Among the 204 new cases are 75 primary contacts, 63 with influenza-like illness (ILI), and 14 with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). As many as 52 cases are under investigation. As many as 70 patients were discharged on Friday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 40,706 samples have been tested so far and 34,993 out of them have tested negative. Among the 5,713 positive cases reported in the district, only 2,929 are currently active. As many as 2,631 persons have recovered and been discharged.
