No plans to join Nowhera Shaik’s MEP, clarifies Lalitha Naik

Bengaluru Feb 18: Former minister and Welfare Party of India leader B T Lalitha Naik on Sunday denied a claim by the All India Mahila Empowerment Party (AIMEP) that she had joined the party.

"I have not joined AIMEP or any other party, and I have no intention to join any party in the coming days. This is my firm decision," Lalitha said.

The AIMEP had, in a statement released to the media recently, claimed that Lalitha had joined the party. The AIMEP had also released pictures of Lalitha meeting its leader Dr Nowhera Shaik, a Hyderabad-based business magnate.

The AIMEP has declared that it will field candidates in all 224 Assembly constituencies. The party held a public meeting at the Lal Bahadur Shastri First Grade College in RT Nagar on February 16.

Mangaluru, May 20: Karnataka Government has banned fishing through mechanised and traditional boats using inboard or outboard engines of over 10 HP capacity using nets or other means, officials sources said on Wednesday.

As per the notification issued under the Karnataka Marine Fishing (Regulation) Act 1986, all fishing activities were banned from June One to July 31.

However, the ban is not applicable for fishing through traditional and country boats which use engines of less than 10 HP capacity, according to a release issued here on Wednesday.

Bengaluru, June 21: Three youngsters lost their lives when an alleged wheeling stunt turned near Jakkur flyover in the city today morning. 

The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Hadi, Ahmed Khan and Syed Riaz, all residents of Nagavara Govindapura.

The tragedy took place at around 6:30 a.m. While two among them died on the spot, the third one breathed his last at a hospital, soruces said.

Yelahanka traffic police have registered a case in this regard.

Udupi, Jul 7: A hotelier committed suicide by jumping into a well at Hiriadka in Udupi district last evening. 

The deceased is Raghavendra Bhat (48), a resident of Kadiyali and owner of Hotel Shivasagar in Kadiyali.

He had been to his brother's house in Hiriyadka where he resorted to the extreme step. 

He was known for organising tiger dance competitions during Sri Krishnashtami every year.

He had contested the Udupi CMC election from Congress party, but had lost by a few votes. Later he had joined the BJP.

A case has been registered ar Hiriadka police station and investigations are on.
